That's gonna make a big difference then! When you get the right one!

What effects does it have on the driveability/performance?

Yep something has gone wrong somewhere. Spoke to them and e-mailed some pics so they can workout what has happened.

To say i am annoyed right now is an understatment as i've been waiting at least a month for this!

It will allow the engine to rev up a lot quicker so 1st and 2nd gear acceleration will improve. Will have to see how it affects driveablilty though, i don't live in town so i think it should be ok!

Just got off the phone and all has been sorted.

As Andy said it is an M3 flywheel which needs a 285mm clutch, it is listed on my reciept as M3/318iS. Dermott at power4peanuts checked through all the parts listings to find a lot of incosistencies regarding the M42 and the dual/single mass flywheels.

He assures me that it will work on my car with the correct clutch kit, which he has been generous enough to give me free of charge because of the mix up.

JBR is awesome stuf.

We've supplied quite a few to ZM and E36 owners.

Never thought of offering them to E30 owners given that a flywheel and clutch would be near enough £500+ fitting.

Depending how much a cltuch kit costs i think it'd be well over £500 really. From what Kos has said and a few other in the states it is well worth the money for the difference it makes to a 318iS.

Luckily my engine is out so it seems like a perfect time to do it.

The M3 clutch has just been delivered so i can get a move on now!

Just weighed everything, the old flywheel and clutch assembly weighed in at 32lb (14.52kg). The new setup weighs 22lb (9.98kg) as the clutch assembly weighs more now. The flywheel on its own only weighs 8lb (3.63kg).

Has anyone got any tips on getting the clutch on and lined up so i can drop the engine back in and onto the gearbox?!

Demlote here.

You need a special tool to lign up the friction plate, if you are good like me and Andyboy (respect) you can eye ball it!

But i would not like to do it with the gearbox still in the car!

**Update**

After a lot of faffing about with different clutches and flywheels it looks like i have finally got the correct setup. The first one i got which is shown on the 1st page had clearence issues with my gearbox because of the timing peg.

We then decided to try the JBR dual mass replacement flywheel as mine was originally fitted with the BMW dual mass replacement flywheel, this was supposed to use the standard clutch. However once Dermott delivered it to me in person we found that the clutch fitted ok but the pressure plate didn't fit the flywheel so he then gave me two choise. I could either wait for him to source the correct clutch kit which could potentially mean having to wait for an order from America again or i could upgrade to a flywheel clutch combo from an M50 engined car that people have used in the past, which he had in stock. So i went for the no brainer 2nd option.

I have this morning just got the new flywheel and clutch and given it a quick check and there are no clearence issues in the grearbox so all should be well now.

I cannot speak highly enough of Dermott at Power4Peanuts, he has spent a lot of time trying to work out what had gone wrong and to his own exspense has order numerous parts to try and help me. The confusion stemed from the fact he had only ever dealt with people wanting to upgrade their clutch at the same time as doing the flywheel so he had only ever used the kit i have now got. I hadn't only asked for a lightened flywheel to use the original clutch which made it tricky because the Americans only have dual mass flywheels whereas we only tend to have single mass ones. He does now have 2 dual mass replacement flywheels in stock and will be sourcing the correct cltuch for them so if anyone is interested they will be available and will probably be lighter than the one i have got now.

Here's some pics

For f*cks sake...why doesn't the zone have an option that filters out and censors "chances to spend too much money" from threads? It has one for swearing!

I want it, I can techincally afford it, but I know I really shouldn't!

Everything is back together and finally running, got the MOT on Thursday so will be able to update you then as to what it is really like then.

From just moving the car about at home today i would say that the bite is a bit more aggressive but its something you would get used to very easily.
