Naturally,as I did last year,I came home and announced it had failed,I'm pretty good at convincing her when it comes to the car, made up that it had failed on brake pipes this year!
The response is unprintable when I informed her I was joking!

But seriously though, yes,i'm well pleased,I did say I would spend some time on those niggly bits this year!

TBH fellas, the reason i'm so chuffed is that for the last three MOT's all the old girl has needed is a flexy break hose!
I know i've done a couple of repairs to the car which it would fail on,but it's not the same identifying and rectifying them yourself without being handed a fail sheet by the inspector before you do them.
Does that make sense??

 You can hear the car talking? Maybe you do need some sleep

BTW, if your car fails the MOT, do you have to pay for the MOT, see what work has to be done, get the work done, and then pay for the MOT to be done again? :?

The retest prices all depend on the individual garage, theres not really any set rules matey.
As for sleep,i think i need some after falling asleep in the bath.

Oh right I thought my mechanic might have been doing something illegal....he does the test, charges for it, does any work needing doing and gives it the certificate without retesting.

I guess that makes sense though, no point in doing another test when you know everything's OK anyway :D

There are certain laws rules regarding what has to be MOT'd again, for instance the emmisions, technically,if it failed on a bulb and you drove to the shop to get another and returned to the garage straight away they should,by law, retest the emmisions again.
TBH though, its all down to how much common sense and how much of an arse the inspector may or may not be.
I went to school with this kiddy,he wasn't academicly very brainy but went into mechanics and became an MOT man.
This then meant he knew lots of things about cars, and the pooooooooowarrr!
He would routinely fail his mates cars in a big way on some kind of power trip, dya know what I mean??
Bastturd,no way he's so much as setting eyes on my car.let alone MOTing it!
He did my sisters car after I told her not to go there,he basiclly wrote it off on stupid things that really didn't need doing, course she believed it all and went and bought a new car! :x
With regards to your MOT man,he's just being like mine would be,working in the real world and being a decent bloke IMO.

That about sums him up!
Failed a mates car aswell because the ABS light was on,the ABS worked perfectly and had no faults, which my mate discovered after spending a grand on it trying to find out why it was on.
My mate gave me his car and asked me to have a look,i pulled the bulb out the dash, which wasn't easy in a Citroen Zantia! Job done.
It would have just been some silly electrical fault somewhere making it come on,as I said, there was nothing wrong with the system.
I know they are supposed to fail if warning lights are on,but f*ck me,if theres no faults,c'mon!

Tell you when I lost my old school mates respect when he told me about a car he fixed,

A woman took her car into his garage as the heater was blowing cold air only.
First port of call was to flush the rad to see if it was blocked (we're talking about a MK3 Fiesta),rad done, still blowing cold air.

Fit new thermostat......still cold

Fit new water pump........still cold

Change head gasket.........still cold

Fit new heater matrix.......still cold

Ok lets start at the begining again..........
Flush out rad again,oh look,I didn't do job properly and the rad was blocked after all!!!!!!!!!!!.Heater now hot!

I said well how does that work, you changed all those bits you didn't need to because you didn't do the rad properly, whose going to pay for all that work?(we're talking about Ԛ£450)

She will, not my problem was his reply!

What a tosser!

My MOT guy is a star, only charges the trade rate and thats only on a pass, no ticket, no charge.

He won't pass a wreck, which is good but if a bulbs out or whatever he understands it will get done.

Of course, before taking a car for a test I check all the usual things like lights etc but the last time I tested a car a brake light bulb blew on the way to the testing station.. Typical

I think this is how my MOT man works TBH,he knows i look after the car,he knows i'll change any silly bits that might be picked,he also knows I know what i'm talking about!
He's let me go in the past with a worn tyre, providing I changed it,which I did straight away, and also my brake wear warning light which is on due to a bust sensor, again,i explained I broke whilst fitting new parts,so was fine to hand over a ticket.
BUT,if there is something wrong he will still fail it.
I took my old Merc Van in after fitting a new front axle and brakes, well, everthing TBH!
When he MOT'd it he noticed i had missed a caliper bolt out, theres four in total so it wasn't a death trap, but was serious enough to require a failier, which i think is perfectly reasonable, drove home, found bolt, drove back, got ticket.
My point is,it's great to have an understanding MOT man,but at the same time I wouldn't want someone who just didn't give a toss and would hand out tickets like candy,i want to know if somethings knackered I don't know about.

Also my MOT man knows he won't get any work from me,so isn't the type to fail it just to earn a few extra quid!
