I fitted my zone BTB 6 branch manifold today and am very impressed with the build quality and power gains.

I had to loosen the rhs engine mounting and jack the engine up a couple of inches to allow me to get the rearmost part of the manifold to fit between the suspension turret and the end of the exhaust studs and also removed the steering coupling to improve access but otherwise it went straight on :D

I also fitted a scorpion back box at the same time, sounds nice with a quiet burble at idle/low speed but turns into a proper menacing bellow at full throttle and high rpm. The 6 branch gives it a nice creamy 6 pot wail above 4k rpm a bit like the E46 M3 CSL as well

I've been for a good blast in the countryside and it definately has more power with a little less torque between idle and 2500 rpm. I nearly shit myself when doing an overtake, changed down into 2nd at about 35mph and punched the throttle, the revs shot up much more quickly than expected and I had to take evasive action to avoid clouting the rear right hand side of the car i was overtaking 8O

This manifold is well worth the money and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again.

I'll have to get her on a dyno and post the printout, I'm expecting some good results.

I'm ready for my trip to the 'ring now

Thanks to Sal for making this happen, your efforts are highly appreciated buddy

Here's some before and after shots

How come there is a loss of low end torque as a result of fitting the new manifold? Will I experience this when I fit my Hartge one, or is it a characteristic of this manifold in particular?

Chris, I am going to ferrybridge. See you there, I'll fetch some bibs so you don't drool all over my front wings winkeye

Theo, because of the design of the manifold having larger diameter and longer pipes there is a trade off, more power at the top end sacrificing low end torque. Just like fitting a lumpy cam will give more at the top but less at the bottom. It's not that much of a loss though :) You'll probably gain/lose less with the Hartge manifold.

Cheers,

Iain T

Iain u don't need to jack the engine up or lose the steering coupling to fit it.

they sound a bit too high pitched for my liking

if it's a 2.7 u shouldn't really notice too much loss down low due to the stroker nature of the engine.

it's more noticible on a 2.5, they rev even better with a 6 branch top end

Glad you like it Iain. It certainly does deliver.

Once it soots up inside the noise will change slightly. Stainless steel manifolds when new can sound a bit harsh.

I've got Magnecor electrosports leads, only got them coz the originals were breaking down and these were the same price as a new genuine set but with a lifetime guarantoo. They felt like they gave more power and response but then my old leads were shagged

There was no way they were going on without jacking up the engine, there wasn't enough space between the end of the exhaust studs and the suspension turret to allow the rear section past. Like trying to get a round peg in a square hole

Megasquirt coming next

About £90 iirc. Good quality leads.

Not much left to modify mate, think the bodywork and carpets are the only original bits left

Oh yeah free rides at ferrybridge but it may be several folks at once at this rate :P

i assumed u took all the studs out the head and fitted new studs and nuts!

if all the studs are out of the way it will fit without raising the engine off the mounts

I fitted all new stainless studs a month or so ago when I fitted the big valve head !

No more rusty crusty exhaust studs for me winkeye

fair enough but why didn't u just take them out again? if they had copper grease on them they slide out?!

did u remove the standard manifold with the engine hot or cold?

You know I can get Alpina's for a grand new!! I proved that and No the car is still with me because I'm not selling it. I don't need to ever sell it, but I might buy another E30 Sport!

So really, I am not a div because I posted up a comment! Who made you the zone questioner?
