Is that bw chip tune in hounslow? I used them a few years back to sort my 1 series after rob from chipped uk fucked it up. Jason* knows his stuff and was very helpful. They were a chipped uk/viezu mapper but I think they have a revo franchise now.
*Jason at bw not to be confused with Jason at chipped uk.

I've used B&W several times, he has probably mapped more e36's 328i's than most and knows what they should make power wise and how they respond to certain mods.smithysmith wrote:Is that bw chip tune in hounslow? Had my e46 330i on his rollers yesterday and I'll be going back for a remap next week.
I'd recommend him as would many others including a couple of guys I know with serious e39 M5's
i've heard horror stories about pretty much every "mapper" in the UK who gets involved with BMWs, the truth most just flash a map on and make a few adjustments here and there.
One so called specialist who gets a lot of publicity for their high end work has made a fair few cock ups. the the truth is every one will some where along the line do a job a customer is not hapy with or something goes wrong. no one is perfect and you can only go on recommendations
so, back on topic, yes id recommend B&W, id also recommend E maps, DMS, CA automotive have a good mapper on the books as do Birds Garage.
the last 3 come at a price, but the latter is arguably the best place in the UK to take your car for any sort of tuning work.

Contact 'Gunni',he re-mapped my 2.7 a while back and I was pleased with both the results and the cost.
At the time,Gunni was finishing his degree in motorsport engineering at Oxford and working at a place in Marlow, not sure where he is now!

gunni would have been on my list however there have been couple a incidents including one zone taking him to court and successfully claiming against him
some of the work was subbed out but non the less there were issues to say the least
but, he can map a car thats for sure

DMCL on here supplied me with a generic chip for the M40 318i that works well. IMHO if its for a stock engine its not worth the extra money for a custom map!

Blown up engines, really ? Where how & when ?rich318i wrote:Was told the one in Hayes Jasonsmithysmith wrote:Is that bw chip tune in hounslow? I could possibly believe that some has wanted their car mapped for max power, lots of ignition advance and mapped on 99 octane fuel, they then run it on crap quality 95 octain, it pinks and does a piston, or they over rev it and it throws a rod
What people need to do is ask them selves how good is their engine and how is it presented to the mapper before they move away from stock. Who's responsibility is it, the mappers or the owners. Personally I say the owners. The mapper can only work with what they are given and do as requested
Never heard of such a story to do with jason @ B&W but I'll ask.
However i've heard stories of others pissing bout with vanos & cam advances on e46 M3's to gain more power. as such this moves the hot spot on the exhuast where the x pipe is to where the cats are and literally melting them.
The truth is no one is perfect but its only the negatives the get publicised

I would take any of my cars back there, from what I saw Jason was very knowledgable and he took the time to explain what he was doing and let me see what was going on instead of shutting me in a waiting area.

my £85 ebay bbtb sticks like fook so the over run should be a positive down the strip along with my newly purchased eagle f1's for the rears i'd say i have a chance with stock cams .

cable is adjusted so it has a bit of slack when closed so it's not too tight .

Just reading up on all info here:
I have been considering getting a BBTB for my little iS and then mabe a map. Allot have spoken sabout and advise to go the route of getting what is called 'A Live Roling Road Map' .. can anybody provide mroe information on this and its advantages?
Also is http://www.bwchiptune.co.uk/ any good ?

A live map is where you go to a rolling road and they create a map specifically for your motor.
When you buy a chip or get a different map put into your ECU, it is generic, its been created for the derivative of the engine, but not for yours in particular.
Therefore a custom live mapping session for your car will provide much better results than a generic chip, providing its a good operator doing the mapping.
A generic chip has no way of knowing what manifold, throttle, compression ratio etc etc, if any of it has been changed.
A live map can take into account these changes, and alter fueling and ignition to suit.
The best bet with live mapping is to install all the hardwear first then map, as it will need to be updated each time the hardwear is changed to get the best from the car. To be honest unless you are changing the fundimentals of the engine with cams etc, I wouldn't bother. Get everything working as it should, and get the injectors cleaned, then a generic chip and a BBTB will give you a noticeable hike in power.

Well you learn something new everyday,i thought a live map ment that they take your car out with a lap top and do it that way?!
I have seen this done,so what is they are doing when they take your car out on the road whilst using a laptop?,is it finding minor faults,e.g flat spots?

The beauty of the rolling road is there are no road conditions. Plus you can hold a load load on the engine while settings are dialed in, giving the best power, for any given engine speed, throttle opening, load, etc
The rolling road is more accurate than the arse dyno too.
