You need "Plasticiser" for the paint to make it flexible.

If its bare plastic (ie no paint on what so ever) use a plasticiser - standox make a good one and youl need one even coat, then a wet on wet primer (if your not planing on rubbing down between coats) if you plan on wet flatting the primer use a two pack primer, if you decide on the 'wet on wet' approach one even coat not to heavy ,check out the recoat time on the tin then go straight on with the desired top coat.

It has paint on it. Its alpinaweiss, its been fitted before. Will I get away with flattening it, priming it then just painting, or plasticiser still needed?

Ok its easy for best results then flast down with 1000g wet and dry then give it a go over with a grey scotch pad to get in all the gaps ect (your aim is to get rid of the shine and make it matt), aslong as you dont go through the paint you can put colour straight on. You only need to prime it if bare plastic or bere filler is visble :)

Primer is just a barrier to stop reaction and to make the paint adhere to the repaired area or bare plastic/filler or metal. If the panel is painted already its a piontless exercise priming it :)

This is a daft anal question but would masking up the gap from the sill to the floor and masking up the wheels etc effect the paint job?

The reason for this is to stop over spray under the car.

No pal, I do that, when I do repairs I generally clean the crap of behind the wheel arch and behind the sill lip air blow it all aswell so no crap gets dislodged and bag the wheel up then I back mask it of the back of the sill and wheel arch. Stops that nasty over spray going under the car... if using a spray gun/compressor a bit of a tip I wet the floor under the car, not a massive puddle! The overspray sucks to the floor and it wont blow particals of the floor into the paint

Iv been airbrushing for years, painted bmxes, odd bits and pieces round the house so fuck it, il try a car...have a go hero. I know its not going to be a great job but itl be better than what it was before. Heavily faded with no laquer on the roof bonnet or boot. As you say its all in the prep. Been taking our time making sure its all done proper
