If you want to die going backwards down an embankment after hitting a puddle - go for it
If you want to replace them after 3 months because they've worn out or gone mishaped - go for it

i wouldnt touch retreads with a bargepole.
alright on a tractor, but not on something i might want to put my family in or drive enthusiastically.
i'd rather buy a set of new nankangs for £44 each http://www.camskill.co.uk/m62b0s300p943 ... R16_87V_TL_

These are not re-moulds and yes most air liners and trucks have re-cut or re-mould tyres.Alex wrote:I was once told Commercial Aircraft use remolds

it is, it's a used tyre that's buffed up and has new rubber with fresh tread stuck and baked on. different names for the same thing.
re-cut is where fresh tread is cut into an existing worn tyre, and can only be done to a certain depth and on tyres designed for it.

I`ts a different process so I`m led to belive.
The re-mould has it`s tread "stuck" on but the re-tread has the new tread moulded on under heat in an oven.
This is what I`m led to belive, so I may be wrong.
Check out the load and speed ratings for both re-mould and re-tread.

"Brand new RETREAD never been on the road" is a bit of a misnomer, as it probably will have been on the road in its previous life!

My personal opinion only but i would pay a bit extra and get new budgets, i have had good experience with kumho, accelera, federal, nexen. I had nankang and thought they were poor in the wet.For everyday driving you wont go far wrong with the names i listed. Those retreads may have new rubber stuck on but the casing and structure have had a lifetime of heat cycles ,flexing and bumps already. For fast road and track use then premium or track type tyres would be better.I also would avoid the likes of sunny, wanli, goodride etc.Cheap but no grip. Only my opinion but i get to drive lots of cars evey day.

who cares about facts !! £155 for a set of these re tred garbage - in a RWD e30 of all carsmartauto wrote:These are not re-moulds and yes most air liners and trucks have re-cut or re-mould tyres.Alex wrote:I was once told Commercial Aircraft use remolds

its not much more for a set of half decent brand new tyres
think about it...that works out say £37 each - for that price, they have to collect/aquire them take them to the place , test them, re tred them, test them again, then sell them on for a profit... its a no brainer that not much goes in to it !
if £60-100 extra for new , is that much of an issue your looking at these...buy a set of part worn decent tyres !!!

The mishaped/worn bit is true, and having driven a car with remoulds, my best description of wet handling is terrifying.martauto wrote:Is this based upon fact or you "just dont like " the look of them?capnmchl wrote:If you want to die going backwards down an embankment after hitting a puddle - go for it

There's a reason Nankangs etc got the name ditchfinders and there's a reason these are in the same league.

I've had a couple of cars with dodgy looking remoulds fitted by previous owners, and was pretty glad when I got them changed, even for part-worns.
However, decent quality new remoulds such as those made by Colway can be OK - they use them on rally cars, for instance.

I've not used the brand in question, but I have used retreaded tyres for racing on short oval tracks, absolutely shocking on tarmac, pretty much like driving with plastic tyres - so much understeer I actually pulled in thinking I had a flat! There's no way they'd end up on my road car... interestingly though, I seem to remember them being ok on the shale track
I guess the process of retreading could be ok, but it depends on the quality of rubber being used. I can only think it will be the cheapest of the cheap for the companies to make a profit.
