Since I have my wee list of chores to do on the cabby to get it through the MOT it was time tonight to get my finger out and crack on.
After what ended up being a totally painless 2 hours I managed to get the car up in the air on stands, front struts off the car and partially stripped, power steering belt off, split steering rack gaiter removed, and a whole bunch of bits out the way to tackle the timing belt.
For once a result, mostly thanks to the WIKI and past advice on here its been a doddle. Not one seized or rounded off nut or bolt.
For me that's a total result as I am far and away from being a mechanic.
Fingers crossed it all goes back together again as easily.
For once and evening well spent

It makes a nice change, some of the other jobs over the last 18 months have been a total nightmare.
it's nice when you get a wee run like that, can be soul destroying spending 2 hours getting a nut or bolt off! (or removing a waterpump housing bolt from a bloody Peugeot with a snapped stud extractor in it)!

The fun bit with the cambelt is starting it after you've changed it for the first time!
Within 10 seconds you then realise that it was actually a remarkably simple job, & you won't be worried at all next time!
Just make sure you check things properly before you turn the key...
