ive never really driven the IS far but i recon it wont be as good as its portraid :?

do you recon an IS with a b25 engine conversion is going to cost more than a normal 325i to insure????

ive never done an engine conversion before, ive removed an m10 and thats as far as ive gone.

can you use a normal exhaust on an m50 or does it need fabricating as i would be no good at that :(

on that basis how many£££££ would an m50 b25 conversion cost :D

Just enjoy the 318is for now, get a years no claims and consider a swap.

Its likely it will get rapped up, if its your first rwd car any how.

get a year under your belt with the iS and collect the 325 or M50 bits as you go along.

You're a young lad and there would be a damn fine chance you'll stack a 325 after getting out of that wheeze bag Corsa, no offence intended, just a highly probable fact :)

Ouch on the insurance mate. Its 385 for my 320i per year and i'm doing an iS conversion and the insurance company said "OK, we'll agree with that" and let me do it... no hike on the insurance!! Because the engine is "of similar power" and not "a performance moddification" and becuase its a "preferred choice" over the 320i...

I have a 320i Auto FFS  !! Of course its a moddification to drive faster

Oh and i'm 20 btw. So i think my insurance is not bad considering!!

doesn't insurance go up when you modify, wouldn't be better to sell the 'is' and buy a 325i then you don't have to mess around converting, and have a year to save up if poss

direct line and put your mum as a named driver, also its cheaper comprehensive than third part fire and theft with direct line for some strange reason

ive had an iS and i now have a b25, and the b25 is so much better in everyway. and the handling really isnt that noticeable on the road. the iS i had to rev hard to go anywhere where as the b25 pulls in all gears.

An iS is going to be like a rocket ship compared to a 3cylinder corsa. :o Its also worth more than a tatty 325i. Keep it, rev it, crash it, scrap it.

it will be much easier to just drive the iS then sell it and buy a factory 325i. So much easier, less hassle! Tis what i did

I couldn't get insured until i was 21 on a 325i so i had to wait! I bought the iS as a stop gap for a year as my 318i i had was a bit of nail

I've been there and done it pretty much, a sorted is with a 4.27 diff isnt far off a 325i.
1an.. I bought my m20b27 powered e30 for the noise, decided it was a good car and put an m50b25 in and now it's so much better, like a grown up iS really. do that, I insured my modded 320ise for 700 with all the bits declared 20 and no ncb or points.. got points now tho :( ah well it was worth it :)
Bollocks to this 24v scrap!

I wish I had 325 now too :(

The IS is a good car... its nippy enough, in the wet its still a laugh, tbh I have learnt alot about car control with mine. I just hate the noise it makes, all screamy.

Like others have said, you'll crash with a 325... the IS lets you get away with being silly with it, to a point. My mate bought his 325 and a week later I had my IS, a month on, he stacked his into a lamp post, with me sat in the back. And he's not a cockrider driver either, it was just a case of coming from a long line of fast FWD cars, and forgetting you treat RWD totally differently.

Enjoy the IS for now, then just convert yours when insurance/funds permit. If your shell is really solid, then I think thats eaiser than all the hassle of looking for a new car.

Im 21 and have 2 years no claims, and I pay 600 quid with Adrian Flux. 1100 really isnt that bad, I know older people are going to say thats bollocks but I paid 900 quid to insure my 1985 1.8 Mk2 Golf GTI last year. My mate has a 1.5 Mazda 323 and pays 800 odd.

IS engine is a M42 twin cam 16v 4 cyl unit. B25 is a M20 6 cyl engine which is 2.5.

325i's rock. But you know what? enjoy the 318is now and then you'll like a 325i even more when you get one. quite a bit of petty difference too which may have an impact on you if you're 18. I used to get about 150 - 170 miles from a full tank in my auto 325, but I did cane it most of the time. I haven't managed to get through a full tank in this manual one yet :? :? :?
surely the ONLY m3 e30 engine is a 4 pot?
Of course!
