Always wanted an Austin Ambassador, have to see if that works on one of them :D

Ambassadors all had 'modern' OHC O series mills. The earlier Princess had the B series tractor engine*

Bit of a bodge, but at least the panel is fitted reasonably straight, though they might have been a little more thorough with the welding, and applied some underseal to protect it from rust!

I want to know why a 60 plate M3 was being repaired with new chassis rails!?

What I meant was, at least a 'proper' panel has actually been fitted on in what appears to be the correct position, and reasonably well welded in (albeit not thoroughly enough). I've certainly seen worse!

For instance, they could have lashed up some home-brew panel of incorrect gauge steel, as many have done...

It happens.

I've seen older less valuable cars get new chassis rails.

Yea not sure why it was repaired in the first place but genuine panels 100% NON GENUINE repairer

The pics must be doing it a bit of justice because that is a horrendous repair mate! Brake + fuel pipes rubbing on the plate 8O plus some of it is just tacked in place!

That was the only bit that was repaired basically all the N/S front lower section

I had to repair a Peugeot 306 Cabriolet this summer, where some jackass had fitted the wrong size balljoint to the driver's side lower wishbone (they are available in 16mm and 18mm), and it kept popping out of the wishbone when the steering wheel was turned.

The bodger that had fitted the undersize ball joint then used some crappy bit of wire wrapped around it to hold it in - potentially lethal if it had popped out at any speed!

True! Oh well, you live and learn...

Fortunately, I only paid £450 for the turd, and did at least enjoy some swish topless Pininfarina style before the knicker elastic let go. :)
