Hi, anyone got 8j originals all around? Any reason why you wouldn't get 8 all round? Thanks
Rim width and tyre width are independent you can run the same size tyre all round if you have 7J or 8J. Or you can use larger rear tyres even if you've got the same rim width front and back.

I haven't done it personaly but I think that Simon13 says that it the 8" ons are not suitable for the fronts as they are the wrong offset. I would have thought that they would promote bumpsteer as well.

Our E46 has staggered wheels and yes it can be a pain if you can't swap front to rear. On the other hand, it allows you to run fat wheels for traction at the back with less tramlining from the front.

i've had around 30 of these wheels pass through my hands and the 10 i currently have all have ronal on them, so no i'm not convinced unless Ronal has gone bust or something and Borbet have picked up the contractskipunda wrote:so, what of my original post then? Have written to Ronal..
Hi Ronal,
An online company, who I am considering buying from, have repeatably said they stock the sole producers of E30 Alpina 16" wheels, approved by BMW....Borbet
http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/bmw_al ... l_wheel_85
Can you still buy Ronals?
Chris
performancealloys.com also sell genuine Alpina's their price comes to around £1600 the classic 4 studs.
mine have 20 spokes and are made by R G ?magpie wrote:£175 got me these![]()

No, they never did. The reason they are very rare is because, if i remember correctly, alpina got pissed of that someone did a dam near copy of their wheel and most probably threatened leagl action so RG stopped making them sharpish!magpie wrote:mine have 20 spokes and are made by R G ?

no, they haven't, all alpina wheels for the e30, to date, have been made by Ronal, a well known and respected wheel manufacturer.
some information suggests that they might now be made by borbet, who are also a well known and respected wheel manufacturer.
i have never heard of RG and they make a replica wheel. they might be reasonable looking replicas (i can't comment on their quality, weight or strength) but they are still replicas. you may well be happy with them, and as they have similar looks at a much reduced price compared to the real thing then fair enough, but let's be honest, the replicas are no more relevant to this thread than someone posting pics of their peugeot 406coupe based ferrari 360 replica on a ferrari 360 appreciation thread would be.
they might look similar, but for people interested in more than just the looks, who want the real deal then they're just not going to cut it.

Thing is the RG alloys are really heavy, the centre cap is massive and the spokes are shorter. Also the lip has a softline edge compared to a sqare edge round the rim.
You can spot them a mile off mainly due to the Burger king style centre caps
I've got a picture genuine and real deal next to each other somewhere when i had both sets

my genuine spokes measure 120mm and the centre cap diameter measures 138mm. looking at the rg pics, the lip, etc looks practically the same si. need to see side-by-side reallySimon13 wrote:Thing is the RG alloys are really heavy, the centre cap is massive and the spokes are shorter.
