As some of you may know im looking to get a 318i or 318is. :D

My bro will be insuring it, he has 2 years no claims and ill be put under his insurance (Hopefully!). Hes 22 and im 18.

Weve got a quote together for a 318i for around Ԛ£1300.
Ill be phoning around tomorrow but i just wanted to know some typical qoutes to expect.

What did you guys get as qoutes for an 318iS?

Cheers!

I insure my 318iS through www.elephant.co.uk

OK i'm getting on a bit now  @ 34..... i've got 17 years No claims  fully comp, limited miles, car parked on road, no mods,

Cost me Ԛ£185 last year, just got renewal for this year @ Ԛ£205 8)

I don't think their is much between the 318i / 318is as far as premiums go!

P.S i have a Diamond Black 318iS for sale....

Anyone know how much roughly id be looking at to insure an IS at 18? On my own policy.Im under my dads name atm, but im 18 in a few months and want to upgrade my motor. Elephant.co.uk wanted 5 grand, fcuk off.
Surely i can get my own policy for a couple of grand?

It can depend on your postcode too - the best I could get, 35yo with full no claims was Ԛ£400; not great at my age, but I did shop around the specialists. Seems OL2 is a high risk area!

What qoutes to you get around london. I live in the North west of London so I know insurance qoutes are usually high.

insurance companies don't really know what an iS is it's group 13 or something. when i switched to my one when i was 19 from a 318i its was a Ԛ£15 admin fee. When i was getting quotes for one when i was 18 there was no difference! which made me kick myself as i should of just gone straight to a 318iS and missed out the M40 8v wrongness!

I'm with Elephant as well.

2years driving
20years old
0 No Claims
10month bonus accelerator
Ԛ£1,105.00 Fully Comp

Didnt thank that was too bad considering.
By far the cheapest though. I had some quotes return for over Ԛ£3500

also check out confused.com to give you some comparisons!

My insurance needs renewing next month and my current insurer Pearl (pearl.co.uk) has quoted me Ԛ£240, I have just been quoted 300 by elephant and the cheapest through confused was Ԛ£260. I am 32 with 5yrs no claims, clean record etc this is for TPFT, maybe you could give them a go.

I'm paying just over Ԛ£1400 to insure my IS fully comp with admiral (mods declared). I'm 20 with 2yrs NC and ive done the pass plus course.
When i got it i was 19 and was paying over Ԛ£1900 for a 10 month bonus accelerator.
The worst thing is that i could get it a lot cheaper with lots of well known companies, but they dont 'like' (read 'understand') modifications!
Admiral wont even cover me for an induction kit (even though they were happy to insure my Ԛ£400 custom stainless exhaust!!)

James mate, if you were paying nearly 2 grand at 19, i dont see why at 18 they would want to charge me 3-5 grand, its stupid. My brother has an is when he was 18 ,yet he was on my dads insurance, but surely after a year of driving theirs gota be somewhere that will do me a bit cheaper!!

Mate, insurance companies seem to just make it up as they go along! I was quoted Ԛ£3500 from CIS (to which i laughed at them down the phone) Strange because they were quite good for my clio and they dont mind mods. Then about Ԛ£1900 from Admiral.
Remember its all done on stats so it depends on so much (area, where its parked, your job, etc etc.) All you can do is stuff like pass plus (which doesnt make that much of a difference with some companies) and get your own policy as soon as poss to start earning NCB.
Oh, and put your folks and siblings on and see if it makes it cheaper.

Ps- i also had 1 years NCB when i got the Bimmer, and try adding a little more voluntary excess

Just had a go on privilege myself and they wont insure me on an is. But if i put in ive been driving for a year they will. Whats all that about. By the time ill have an IS i would have been driving about 8 months, surely theres someone outthere that will insure me if ive been driving under a year? Or do i just put 1 year and hope they wont notice the few months

When I went from standard 318i to 318is there was about Ԛ£10 difference so insurance companies don't seem to know the difference in bhp, so it makes semse to get an iS.

Try a company called HighPerformance. They did a good quote for me a few years ago on my then 1.8 16v Corrado (approx same power lump as an iS). Just keep hitting the phones - its worth it. And taking Advance Driver courses can lower the premium too.
