So I want to sort my electric roof. At the moment it is half manual (roof) and half electric (horseshoe). I think I'm right in saying that I will need the re-enforcement plate that will go over the top of this to fix it...?

Image

Also can someone please tell me if this looks right?

Image

The top red arrow shows a bolt that looks like it should attach itself to the arm to the right of it - What should go here? I can't seem to find the right part number. Number 9 maybe?
The bottom arrow - should this be straight?

Image

Also the other side (passenger side) looks similar to the one above. it looks like it's missing something?

Image

Thanks in advance.

That bit you are pointing at in the second picture I couldn't get when I had my Motorsport. I ended up going to Bmw for the dimensions and getting a local engineer shop to make me two as I needed the other side as well

Hi thanks. Yes I have all them. They are removed so I can manually open the roof.

You are missing the closing rod. Part numbers: 3,10,11 & 14

You will also need to repair plate you have mentioned, but I am
Assuming you still have both the upper and lower levers that the rods, 3 & 2 attach to

Hi thanks for this. As mentioned I have all the necessary parts. These have been remove so I can close the hood manually. OK so I need the repair plate but what about the arrows on the picture? Which part numbers are these?
Thanks.

In your first pick with the two arrows - nothing is missing on the lower arrow, this is just a moving part. The arrow above it looks like it is is missing a circular pin (part 13). just keeps the lever moving within the slot. Possibly on both sides...

Gert_8 - thanks so much! I might try and straighten the bottom bit where the bottom arrow points to as on closer inspection it looks bent.
I'll get them pins (part 13) ordered too, as well as the repair plate. I'll let you know if it works. Thanks again. :thumb:

Actually Gert_8, after doing more research it looks like a bolt and not a rivet. Could it be part number 8?
This chap had the same problem....

I'm referring to this pic..

Image

The top arrow is where I think part #13 fits. It serves as a guide that fits into the slot on the right hand lever (which by the way, looks like it may be bent).

It might be an idea to take that pic to your BM Dealer and ask their parts department for an opinion, but looking at the exploded diagram, part 13 looks like the one you're after on that side.

The other image, I'm guessing, has a similar arrangement (I haven't really paid much attention to this side, because when the roof breaks, the forces involved usually affect the right hand linkages.)

I have had a look at the thread you posted above, and it does look like a screw, but the exploded diagram, part #13 looks to me to be the right size than part #8. It may be the drawing doesn't show the slot?

Thanks for your advise. I've had a look at part number 13 (54318129346) on google and should it look like this...

That looks right - it slots into the groove on the lever to the right of the first arrow.

What is confusing me, is the lever itself has a pin protruding, so how does is attach? :?

Ok yes that makes sense. The pin that's producing out is maybe because it has snapped off and that's what's left?

So Gert_8 - typed part number 8 (54318134533) into goggle and this is what I found? It looks more like it do you think?

If you can tell me whether you can remove the "pin" that protrudes on the lever, highlighted with your 1st arrow and this part screws in to replace it, then it's the one. Take a look at that pin thing please.

I've never actually seen an electric roof mechanism.

Just interested.

Gert,

Can you take equivalent pictures of yours to show what it should look like?

There are some more pictures of the meachanism in this thread: http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... f&start=50

Might help?

The bent piece that your lower arrow points to looks straight in them.

Chaps thanks so much! That makes sense. In that thread I put up of that chap who had the same problem, someone had sent him a bag of the guide screws, there's a pictures of them a few pages on. So I'm assuming these can be replaced/fabricated somehow. I've had a quick look at mine and I cannot get that broken screw out! Any tips on getting this out? I've been fighting it for a while.
