Hi can anyone tell me whats the biggest wheels you can fit on an e30 without any trouble? I had 19s on my e36 with no problems at all but are the e30s different?

Thanks, Ash

18's with extreamly stiff springs i will wager!!

16's are the biggest you can go without modding the suspension, bigger than this you must stiffen the suspension or the rear will rub under compression and the fronts will rub while turning.

16" are really the best for the e30 , 17" upwards really need some work doing and/or extra care when driving.

I had 17"'s on my old cabby for a while and they were a nightmare.

Yup 16's are the best compromise, 17's start to cause handling concerns on the road, 18+ just silly in terms of bad handling characteristics and modifications needed. You will need body and suspension modifications if lowering and wish to run 17's. Unless you don't give a crap about sh1te choppy handling and rubbing arches? Elf runs 20's on his E30 but it looks comical (in my opinion)
Hey each to his/her own though- if you want the look then go for it, it's your car :D

I had 17's fitted, now i've got 16's, there is a lot of difference. Prefer the 16's. much better ride quality and handling :)

Cool cheers guys, its lowered on 17s at the mo with no trouble but I was just curios. I have seen some 16 inch borbet wheels I like on ebay, just unsure what they would look like.

Thanks, Ash.

Nothing wrong with proper 17's and proper sized quality tyres..

However, I think 16's is the optimum size tbh

heh, that's wierd, my comment above was posted without seeing grindcultures post of a monster e30 which went up at exactly the same time :D

17s can look good, but is a lot harder to get right. most e30s on 17s look poop. any bigger and it'll never look right. 16s are pretty much the universal 'correct' size. the e30 is a fairly small car with shallow sides, with big wheels it tends to look like it's perched on top of them
cheers,

Also bare in mind wheel width and tyre profiles some combinations work better than others depending on suspension setup.
