What about the E28 M535i? This was not a motorsport built car but was badged M535i from the factory? This car was just a sum of parts just like the sport.

He can drive it through the window of his local off licence if he so wishes, its just not factory. They never came like that from the factory and nor were sports every built in an M factory that happens to not exsist at least in the sence 320ise seemed to think, along with all the other crap he posted which was either bollocks or repeated bollocks he took for true.

I'm hardly a factory bufty myself have you seen my car, but they also look tacky and shite, just like stick on bonnet vents, 'Jason and Sharon' front window sun screens, pink fluffy dice and writing your shoppin list down your front wing.

Actually this came like this from factory, hence factory fitament, and thus factory.

Vehicles which have been modified by BMW Motorsport but are not full M-Cars may feature plain "M" badges with no number, whilst full M-Cars have "M" badges with the model number. E.g. "M3" or "M5". It should be noted however that the Z3/Z4-based M Roadster and M Coupe bore numberless "M" badges as standard fitment.

For example, the E28 M535i featured suspension, styling, and transmission improvements over the standard 535i. These changes were carried out by BMW Motorsport, thus the car carried "M" stripe badges on the front grille and boot, but not the full "M5" badging. The E28 M5 was sold alongside the M535i. Motorsport modifications have been made to almost every BMW model, hence it is not unusual to see "standard" BMW's with "M" badges.

The opposite occurred with the 850CSi, an M car in all but name; it had a BMW M”“sourced engine and its VIN indicated that it was developed by BMW Motorsport, like all other M cars. It was possible that a true M8 was in development; however, this M8 was cancelled for reasons known only to BMW.

The M635csi also went against this ethos as it followed the M535i naming tradition but was a fully fledged M-Car.
Barry if I fit an alpina gearknob is my car Alpina? If I specced an Alpina gearknob (only) from factory is my car an Aplina? I think you would agree they are not.

If Alpina added the gearknob though then I suspect it would be.

But the M535i was an "offical" BMW build - not a spec'd-up 535i like the 325i Sport was a spec'd-up 325i.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

Fair enough. I'm not that bothered about sports wearing an "M" badge tbh but i can understand the logic in people not liking others sticking them to any old turd.

Incidently my sport had an "M" badge on it from new and was most probably was dealer fit. The only reason why i removed it was because of the Alpina items which i began to fit. That is one thing that i personaly dont like when people mix and match badges and parts from different tuners ie sticking schnitzer wheels on an Alpina kitted car etc. Thats just wrong.

that is right and what does the tech 2 kit have stamped on the front quarter and rear bumper M-Technik so technically did have a m badge from factoy! and there for the kit was designed by M. and is an m car not a pedagree but still an M and deserves the badge!
mate... you are getting flamed to @uck... i think the only badge that should bare the ///M is the m3... and the 320is, 325is and the motorsport cabs.. its up to the individual what he/she wants to put on their car... but what i wont stand for is people sporting a badge be it.. ///M, hartge, alpina, schnitzer and have no goodies on the car that relate to these tuning companies.
as for sports being built by bmw's motorsport division??? its the funniest thing i have heard today... its bolloks.
so please... post some other intresting facts up that none of us (and bmw) are aware of... then we can flame you again!

Haha that's nothing! A tw@t in a Merc passed me the other week on a dual carriageway with the following badges on his bootlid -

1. An AMG badge
2. An Mpower badge (One of those cheap Halfords ones)
3. An AC Schnitzer badge
4. And an Irmscher badge

:wtf:

I tried to catch up to get a photo but I was in my work van and it was heavy traffic.

I think the only cars that should have M badges are cars that came with M Power engines from the factory.

I saw a pic a while back of an E36 with a Mugen sticker on it, eh!?

No I didn't get his reg but if he's a local I hope to spot him again and get a photo purely for the Zone's enjoyment (not while I'm driving though - only whilst I'm safely parked in a designated parking bay and not smoking a fag in a company vehicle) of course! :nono:

Then theres the fact they are not an M car! Nor were they designed by 'the m division' think about it it was simply 325i with options. Those options may have been designed by the m division or it may have been a sales tactic but this is not tha same thing! Is this going in yet?
i hate to piss on your fire but M-division did indeed develop the suspension and bodykits for these cars. Windtunnel work for the bodykit to reduce uplift at speed. downforce on the boot spoiler flared around teh wheels to reduce drag etc. Look at the kits it's all there. There was no sport option it was called the M-technik sport paket. Available in germany and anywhere else probably for the 325i, but not marketed like an sport in the UK. 325iS in aus was the same car. Options they may be but M options at that.

The 850CSI has an M-power engine with the "bmw m-power" inlet/rocker jobbie or something, again M-division had a big hand in the chassis on this car. Hardly a non M car

E34 M5's where built by hand by BMW's top engine builders and other bods so there is some truth in what 320ise was saying he just couldn't get the words down!
