I used one of my sisters socks+cable tie over the airbox inlet and done away with the air-filter, as it kept gettin caked in oil...

I stopped doing this when it got sucked in after giving the engine some abuse :o:

I know a lad whos' fuel pump in his mini failed one night and left him stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Now this is ingenious wombilng...

He emptied out the washer bottle and filled it with fuel from a petrol can in the boot. Then disconnected the pipe that goes to the washer jets and attached it to the inlet pipe for the carburettor. He then unplugged the wiper motor.

He drove home occasionally pressing the "wash wipe" stalk to pump a little fuel into the float chamber - well it saved waiting for recovery! lol

Alfa Delta- classic wombling!!

I once had a Scirocco with a blocked fuel line so I bungee corded a 5ltr plastic jerry can next to the rad and had some fuel pipe feeding from said jerry can. Worked a treat until, after some usual driving antics, can moved a bit and rested against cooling fan, which in turn wore through plastic can and dumped fuel load, leaving me stranded. :D

There's been many a dumped banger I've liberated parts from to keep mine running, particularly my 1970 Minor Traveller because just about any BMC part will fit on from the likes of Minis, Austin 1300, Metro, Marina, etc. :) In fact, it currently has an MG Midget engine & box and wheels, Metro HIF carb, Ford Orion front disc brakes...

As a gasket or as a spark plug thread?

I've done the spark plug thread to get me home after mine got fired out of the head, pulling it's thread as it went. Took 30 minutes of searching the roadside to find the plug but the repair got me home in the end.

On a Ford Sierra, i once used a piece of speaker wire as a throttle cable when mine snapped. I ran the wire out of the drivers window and through the bulkhead vents to the throttle linkage. With it wrapped around my right hand it made a useable hand operated throttle and got me home.

i had a mk1 lotus cortina se it was mint but i could not find the little alloy cap that clipped on to the end of the indicater stalk, ford no longer made them etc, The club register was full of people asking about them. i was out one day at a friends who had kids and i looked at the maclarren buggy push chair, and on the end of the axels was a alloy cap that looked as if it would do the job, it was made for it! so i wrote to the company and they sent me 10 for nothing witch i sold at the next register meet for a fiver each :D winkeye
