Mick’s car had been advertised in the cars for sale section on here for about 10 days before Mick saw it and bought it (7/10/2008).
It was advertised as a £350 318is project no t&t starts and drives but had chrome arches on it and 5 spoke alloys. Mick said “the comments put everyone off buying it as they were all about how rotten it would be under those chrome arches”, luckily for Mick they were stick on ones and came off easy enough, the arches all 4 of them were like new!
It came with some factory fitted treats, 13 button OBC, front fogs, black headliner (not all 318is left factory with this), electric sunroof and the tech1 steering wheel 385mm with mtech gearknob .
The photo to the left is from the advert where it had been sat for 3 and a half years under a car port. photo below was taken the day of delivery.
After 2 years Mick removed the m42 and decided to install an m50b25 conversion that came up on the zone sales page, Mick said “I added to this package a lightened m20 flywheel, bbtb, venom chip, and very rare pair of alpina m50 none vanos cams”.
Mick ran the m50 for 2 yrs then converted to m52b28 for a bit with m50 inlet, bbtb and Danthe mapped ecu then had an m5b30 stroker bottom end built up into a spare m52 block, Mick installed that running 244bhp with e36 m3 6-speed box and e30 m3 3.25 diff with 40% lock up mods (bought from BadDave an old mod on here), a full stainless exhaust including manifold made in x2 50mm straight through pipes through out inc manifolds onto modified scorpion le-mans back box .
The outside of car came with factory fogs, with custom smoked headlights with x hair high beams, fitted headlight wash wiper kit, rear pop out windows, blue top tint windscreen, tech-1 boot spoiler and a lip splitter to the 318is lip spoiler.
The interior Mick added to it’s factory fitted 13 button obc, leather gearstick gaiter and black headliner,
rear sun blind, full leather sports interior with rear headrests and centre arm rest, black vinyl door cards, smaller tech-1 steering wheel recovered by royal steering wheels, oem fire extinguisher, illuminated leather 6-speed gearknob from e36 m3 and a leather handbrake handle and gaiter.
On the handling side of things Mick added, b12 kit with b8 dampers + rose jointed rear top mounts, eibach adjustable arbs, mondeo front drop link mod, front strut brace, m3 eccentric lollipop bushes replaced both lower control arms and front top mounts, replaced rear bushes with oem parts and Danthe void fillers, replaced trailing arm bushes and rear drop links also replaced all x4 wheel bearings. The steering wasn’t missed either, purple tag club sport rack, new tie and track rods, danthe custom p/s pipes , modified steering linkages were also added.
To make it stop Mick upgraded the brakes to wilwood 4-pots up front, e30 touring rear calipers and braided Goodridge hoses all round. Wheels? Only ever ran 2 sets in 10 yrs mainly 16″ RG Alpina reps and more recently BBS reps black centres 8j all round with 5mm spacers .
So what has Mick got planned for the future… to fit the Dbilas cams I have purchased and dyno again, put RG wheels back on and change carpet for a plush pile one and dye it black .
