Right I bolted my m30 into my 325i touring (1988) last night, just connected the main loom, the battery, the engine earth, the ecu is in place as is the live feed to the power block next to it, the ignition lights are now fixed on and when you turn the key the starter just clicks!

Any ideas? Is it something glaringly obvious??!

Not sure how much charge is in the battery tbh, I will go and check now and give the starter a crack, thing is if the starter was just stuck would that leave the ignition lights on all the time? Even when the key isn't in the ignition??

I'm sure we've been down this road before recently. Have you got a large wire going straight from the battery Pos to the large terminal on the starter solenoid?

Exactly the problem I had!

You need the starter motor power cable from your E30 - the M30 one's not long enough...

If your ignition lights are on even with the the ignition in the off position, worry about that first.
How many positive connections have you got going to the battery terminal?

Seems to be 6, live feed to power block by ecu, live feed to starter, main wire to fuse box (incorporates 2 i think) then 2 more to inside the ecu main loom???

What colour are those last two ( you may need to peel back the black outer insulation)? Can you take a picture? have you got any earths going to the top of the strut mount?
