It is on front ot the tank (on the left side), under the car.
How to change it safely? Don't smoke during the work.

should be under the floor on the passenger side below the front seat, in line , couple of jubilee clips job done but be aware of the flow direction indicated by an arrow on the filter.

Make sure you de- pressurise the system first. Have the engine running and take either the fuel pump relay out or the fuse ( I think fuse 16). If you don't you will waste a load of fuel..

This is me being a bit thick, so is it underneath the car or under the passenger seat.

i did mine on the weekend, i have same car. start engine and remove fuse 11, let engine cut out and replace the fuse. it will cut off the pump and in turn the fuel. the pump is underneath the car, back passenger door. there is probably a black cover over it that needs removing. :)

Or you could always get a pair of mole grips and clamp the hose. I did that when i replaced mine. Spilt a splash of fuel agreed but did neither of the above suggestions. I guess there are many ways to skin a cat huh!

Good luck dude.

take out fuse 11 and start the car, it will run for max of 5 secs then cut out, although I wouldnt put the fuse back in until I had finished the work. Just in case.

In my 89 325 it's under the brake fluid resevoir. Fuse out, run the engine till it dies, battery neutral off, change it, then wonder why you haven't worked on your own engine before! :D

Same here ( I Think ! ) bolted to the suspension strut on the passenger side - need to remove the airbox to get at it properly and its still a bit of a pig to remove - out of my 4 E30's don't think any of them had the fuel filter under the car - they've all been mounted in the engine bay !
