Hi what engine to build?

Although my car is mainly used for track days I want o make eligible for a race series so in future I can compete at least once in a car I built.

I currently have the following engines
Âa M10 (dry sumped)
2 & Âa S14 (2.0/2.3)
M20 2.7
M30 3.5

The series I am considering is the
Classic sports & saloon cars at knockhill: original block/head/crank 2.0l class split and can run cabs or original fuel system, limited chassis mods, use m10/20
Scottish saloons knockhill: any bmw block any chassis mods except space framed
Classic touring cars (Classic Thunder), original block, liberal chassis mods use m10/20 (inc m10/s14 hybrid or m30 if class car as alpina B6)

I think the Scottish saloons is out as more freedom = more money & more choice
The classic sports cars & saloons in an option but the regs limited the simple mods i want to do to improve the handling (i.e. run a tension strut set up on the front)

Classic touring cars touring cars give me the chance to finish the car as a group 2 replica an idea I like, but what engine? and I live the other end of the country from the circuits.

You thoughts and opinions are welcome

CTCRC and move down South! :)

Does seem a bit unfair that most of the racing is done in the bottom 2/3rds of the UK. They do go to Croft in the Classic Touring Cars though and Oulton Park can't be too far away from you. If you mean race "only" the once then I wouldn't go too mad on a car that's only having one outing.

If not pick the one where you'll be competetive but you'll still keep a roof over your head and the other half happy winkeye
