THought i should make a seperate post, right iv started stripping my car, the suspension is shite, some fools put the worst lowering springs on the car i have ever driven and the anti roll bar is knackered.
However iv undone the anti roll bar mounts, the steering arm and also the bolt from the suspension arm itself. However i cant shift the strut from the suspension arm, iv tried all ways even undoing the strut from the top, the strut pivots on the mount but i just cant get it free, iv spend hours and hours trying to losen it up and use brute force but it wont budge.
Is there a speacil technique to this or am i being a dumbass
Again any help would be magic
Thanks
Cant remove my front suspension strut

Have you tried a ball joint splitter?
Youth is wasted on the young.
If I've understood you right mate you want to get the damper unit out from the strut which is attached to the stub axel?
On the e30 the damper is an insert that's held in by a collar nut - I had a real game with mine and in the end I used the angle grinder to make a couple of flats then got a plumbers wrench thing on it.

Is that what you meant, or am I way off ???

Ah ok-so yes the guys above have hit the nail on the head. Two ways to do it - one, take the stub axel/hub off the strut and the other (which is sometimes easier) is to take off the whole lower arm - there's another ball joint on the cross-member - you'll see it.
As the others have said ball joint seperator is what you want
Either of these will do:

After you've got that lot off then you'll need to get the top collar off as I suggest above.

the top type always rips the rubber with me to. best used if your replacing the control arm anyway so the damage wont matter.bigbird76 wrote:Can i ask
The top splitter in the above picture, Does it tend to ruin the rubber boot cover on the balljoint itself i used one of these before and split the rubber or is it me ??
Cheers

you never want to use a ball joint splitter unless you change the arm.
best way of doing it is with a big bar and a hammer. slide the bar someware suitable under the chasis and on the lower arm get some one to lean on on it and hit it hard. when it moves it may only go so far if this is the case. relax off the bar push the hub in to the car and move the bar away from the ball joint then repeat with the hammer. the closer the bar to ball joint the harder it will be th remove because of the angle.
good luck
