I've just been on the phone to the garage who are trying to fit my new H&R anti roll bars. They say that the rear one needs different fittings to the standard one. He says that the standard bar has a bushing one end and a ball joint on the other, whereas the H&R needs ball joints on both ends.

Can anyone advise, as I'm not entirely sure what he means.

Tell them to put the rear drop link in a bowl of boiling water for 5mins. After this the bolt will slide through the droplink rubber. It doesn't look like it would work but it will!

Rear drop link has a bushing both ends the end which is all rubber fits to the roll bar and the other bolts to the trailing arm

It's really simple - rather than the tip of the bar being pushed through the bush on the droplink like on the OEM setup, a bolt is used. Press this bolt through the bush in the droplink and then it can be attached to the ARB with the nylock nut which is supplied with the ARB kit.

I didn't have to do any pressing of bolts. Mine just did up on the threads!

Just spoken to them again and even with the instructions from you guys they reckon it just won't fit. Looks like I'm going to have to wander over there and have a look tomorrow. What you're saying makes sense based on the parts diagrams.

Ahhh! i think I know your problem. I think you need the E36 rear links. These are from memory ball jointed both ends.

e36 ones are the same as E30

The boiling water trick is easy they just slide on to the bolt

I use E36 M3 rear droplinks, and they have no ball joints. I'd imagine that normal e36's are the same?

This diagram should explain better what I was saying. There is no need for any thing other that the nuts/bolts supplied and some std droplinks. I can't remember off the top of my head which side of the bar the droplink sits, i think it's as per my diagram, but would want to check under the car to be sure!

That exactly how i imagined they would fit. It's just a question of getting them to understand it.

screw the bolt into the droplink using a spanner if that makes sense, then get it into the roll bar then do it up job, jobbed. the rear roll bar is the easyer roll bar to fit.
