Don't laugh!!!

On the way back from zausts house last night I stopped at South Mimms. On the way out I managed without trying to get the car sideways. I was well excited, almost to a point of a semi lob on! So this morning just round the corner from work after picking up my Maccy D's I deceided to try and have ago.

Wrong move

I turn in, floored it and spun all over the f*cking shop, mounting a kerbed grass island and then hitting the road again! If that wasn't bad enough I ended up in a bus layby as my senior manager drove past!

Got into work and checked her over and there's no visible damage all bumpers and alloys are ok. Can't even see any damage underneath, but the impact with the kerb was so big it must have screwed my suspension.

Needless to say I will be driving sensibly from now on and a big Salut goes out to Karan and the other Heroes, I don't know how you have the bottle to do it.

Hahaha I'm the talk of the company! One of the boys just rang and asked if I had crashed my car as he overheard someone talking about it on the phone!

How fecking embarrassing!!

Just been out and looked again, the drivers side innerwheel arch has pushed out (I should be able to fix that easy enough) and there's a bit of paint missing on the lower lip of the front bumper.

Fingers crossed though regarding the suspension later.

And yes Hero lessons this way please! :D

Daryll,

You only get seen when it doesn't go right mate :D

I had misses and friends the car over the weekend and tried to drift round the wet rdbt, ended up facing the wrong way and everyone in the car nearly went out the passenger side windows!!

9 times out of 10 I'll nail it, but when there is a possability of cocking it up and being seen, it happens

Hope your cars not damaged, I've hit kerbs before, cost me a few sets of tires, wheels and bent suspension.

Sorry to hear it mate....hope she's ok!

Best idea is to find a wide open area and get the hang of loosing the rear end but keeping it under control! Well away from any onlookers. Once you've got the basics you can try bit by bit to have a go on the odd roundabout! (Not condoning illegal activity!)

Daryll mate, know exactly where you're coming from here mate. I'm just itching to do some quality drifting on wet roundabouts and stuff. Sometimes it accidentally goes and maybe needs a 1/4 opposite lock to bring it back into shape. But generally I find myself having the odd attempt and it swings out, but my instinctive reaction once it starts to go is to back off the throttle and it sorts itself out straight away. I know that you have to keep the throttle open and balance it with the slide, but I just have nightmares about being brave and keeping it open only then to over correct the slide and fishtail totally out of contol into a lamp post or something solid!

Damn sunday opening at retail parks, otherwise would have plenty of venues with open spaces and nothing to hit.

Oversteer - it's a right not a privilege!!

Could have been worse - I saw an E36 attempt something similar this morning - except he clipped the island with the rear wheel...

Ended up with 45 degree camber!

I resisted the temptation to show him how to do it properly (I case I couldn't)

Hope you get it sorted soon.

oops sorry to hear that..... do the open space thing.... we ALL spin and cock it up sometimes......Dave has some particularly funny stories involving a field.... and i have a few too one involving going backwards at 20moh into a hedge and one spinning at 5mp in the wet on slicks on a paved roundabout and taking my exit backwards, one funny one was nearly losing it (on the lockstops in an open diff car on the public roads in the wet=no control!!!), and this guy at a bus stop just near the road so me coming towards him well sideways with a look of horror on my face, -u should have seen that guy run..... lesson-----dont take liberties in the wet, or get carried away with passengers in the car ....... it can end in  ive bent a couple bbs this way in previus e30s......

Thanks for the support guys....

just took her out and ride wise she seems fine. In fact I think the shunt managed to knock my tracking back into alignment. Will sort the tiny arch damage out tonight and the front bumper will need a paint job but i was going to get that done anyway.

the missus never appreciates it when I try the heroics!

I've usually been planning the move on a particular roundbout wel in advance on my way home from work. Get pretty annoyed if I arrive at the roundabout and there's traffic about!

may i suggest night time roundabout drifting, dont stay in one place though keep moving along.... as locals may report u... and response by police can be as little as 5 mins or less...!!!!!! also try in the wet first...go round in 2nd and boot it....slowly build up the confidence to keep ure foot in.....this is how i did it.... dry drifting is a different game, u have to be a lot quicker and the g force of higher speeds makes it harder as ure pushed to the side..... i find that after changing gear just before a slide... if u push ure left foot onto the footrest to help secure ure body in position this also helps, dont leave it waivering above the clutch. this will push u into ure seat and give u a better feel thru ure body as to what is going on....obviously inn competition this is where buckets and harnesses come in......

Wise words from Karan there!

When my touring was 2.0, and open diff'd, I could only really drift in the wet...

One wet day up the A22 from Eastbourne to the M25 I was drifting round every roundabout rather than going straight on, and drifting past the same people I would overtake on the dual-carriageway sections between the roundabouts! That was awesome.

No point to my story really. :?

self taught.....although im gonna sell sport end of this year and do the v8 drift thingy....may do some amateur stuff in tthat...im not good enough yet for that d1 stuff....those guys ae very good and getting better at a silly rate!!! 8O plus they are now all running 400hp plus pretty much with the guy who just won the last round having a 500hp s13...... i can only 3rd gear drift (As in KEEP the ass out, not just snap it) on very bald crappy tyres at high presure, and even then im not comfortable and very very afraid........ 2nd gear stuff round most roundabouts is now 2nd nautre.... although i have cut down now after being caught by the police fishtailing up a dual carriageway and getting a tellin off and warning!!!

You are right about dry road drifting. My car doesn't have enough power to do it but once on a race track I was exiting turn 1 at about 140km/h (about 87mph), ran a fraction wide and got the outside wheel on the ripple strip bit. The car went sideways rather quickly 8O . I caught it ok and brought it back in smoothly (managed not to overcorrect it or fishtail) but it still gave me a fright. I was in shock for the rest of the lap, I was just sitting there wide eyed. One of those moments when you are sure you've gone too far 8O .

I know I have horrible car control so I don't even bother on normal roads, I save it for Autocross racing. It's easier on the dirt.

unlucky daryll - at least it doesn't seem as if you've sustained much damage - the last time i hung the back out properly was the last time i drove my 325 coupe, if only it weren't for that pesky lamp post....!

what a terrible fate.
