My mate's 535 has snapped an exhaust rocker on cylinder No 6 (nearest the bulkhead) it looks like the previous owner hadn't tightened the eccentric adjuster and it slipped round closing up the clearance..

My question is do you guys reckon we'd be able to change it with the engine still in place as we only need to slid the rocker shaft about 2-3 inches to change it. I know we'd need to remove the radiator, front timing case cover, dizzy, timing chain and camshaft wheel and set all the valve eccentrics to maximum clearance. I can't see any issues unless we have to remove the rocker shaft end plate nearest the bulkhead.

Any input much appreciated :D

No, can't be done without removing the head on the M30. There are four rocker shafts (two per side) and they are located in the head by the head bolts which engage in cut outs in the shafts.

Sorry, but it's head off time.

Don't even think about touching the downpipe studs as they ALWAYS snap off. They are special long shoulded bolts too. Undo the manifold from the head and remove the head with the inlet manifold. A good time to give the head a skim and a new gasket.

Cheers for the information Andy, looks like I'll be busy next weekend then... Not all doom and gloom though as at some point this car was going to be going down the F/I route and this will give us the excuse of fitting an MLS headgasket and ARP head studs winkeye

Thanks for the head's up on the exhaust manifold aswell :thumb:
