Has anyone had to replace the plastic membrane behind the door cards on their e30 (or other BMW)?

What material did you use and how did you do it?

Thanks very much

Hi. Try a thick dustbin liner or rubble sack cut to size.

Dean,

You can get it from the dealers. It comes on a roll, so you have to cut it to shape, but it's better than using an old bin bag.

Ian.

Damp proof membrane (DPM) used for waterproofing floors in buildings is ideal for the job. One offcut provides enough for many doors.
I don't know enough about N.Z. building regs, though, to know if you use this stuff.
Later E30s seem to have a grey plastic membrane, held in place by black goo around the edge, which is entirely reusable.

I used sign writers vinyl. It's strong and flexible, and has a self adhesive backing like the original membrane. You can get it in clear.

Whats the difference whether you have the membrane or not. (yes, I've just said that out loud and it sounds thick to me as well!) :o:
And on the eighth day God created........The E30!

Waterproofing and sound too. Visqueen works well.

I was having water leak into the rear footwell and was told b the BMW dealer that the membrane was all ripped up and my best bet would be to replace that.

Thanks very much to everyone for the advice!!!
