I am trying to remove the springs from a set of front struts and am having some difficulty with it.

I've got a socket bit that fits the big bolt in the top and I have spring compressors in place, but now the damper is turning when I rotate the bolt and I cant see a good way to hold it in place.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Patrick :)

I use a half inch 19mm socket, with a couple of flats ground onto the side, used with an open end spanner. ! then use a quarter inch socket on a short extension with a T bar, down through the hole in the 19mm socket, to hold the damper.

thank you :) I will give this a go tonight when I get home. Just need to get a spare 19mm socket to butcher!

Doesn't fatally damage the 19mm socket. - Just a couple of flats to get an OE spanner on it.
