Hi guys, I am Rob, based in Essex, and together with a friend Nigel, we are in the early stages of prepping our 318 2 door for a trip to the Ring and track days 2008, and hopefully PBMW 2009.
We both have kids and work to juggle sorting the car around.
We wanted a 318 due to the handling feel, and a 2 door for shell stiffness, so a non sunroof model preferably. We eventually found this 2 owner, FSH 80K, for £700

First thing we did was service the the engine fully, fitting a new cam belt, tensioners, waterpump, thermostat, sump gasket and then acquired some BBS's as the regs state 15's for the TOYO 888's.
Image
We then set about stripping and cleaning the car.......

Its slowly getting there, but we've found some rot in the rear arches, so now we've got to learn to weld! (Or rather remember how to weld)
Our aim is to get suspension, brakes, exhaust, filter, cage, seat and harnesses in as soon as possible so we can do a couple of trackdays before a Spring trip to the 'Ring.
It's been great fun so far, can't wait to do some more! (except I am still sorting out my daily driver...... :? )

If you are looking for a track day in Feb have a look at the one i'm organising at Bedford in Feb. It's in this section.

Have fun taking the black tar out, i'm sure you will enjoy it

Plenty of weight can be taken out of those removed bumpers too

I've been told plumbers freeze spray is the way to go with the sound insulation, i'll post how it goes!

Hi Rob

Good to see another car in build for PBMW :) Loads of us in Essex- where abouts are you??

Great looking base too!! Sound deadening- get the heat gun on it, then petrol to remove the residue, works a treat and you get high as a kite

Bumpers- leave them as standard to meet PBMW regs, no removal of material allowed ;)

Let me know if you looking at coming to any races next year and i'll sort you out some tickets

Also if you interested there should be a PBMW open day at Snet on Mrach 1st- just confirming the details!!

Get onto www.seloc.org for all the info on PBMW, loads of changes for 2008 all for the good of the racers

And if you need any info drop me a line jimmyc@pbmwc.co.uk

Keep us updated on the build!!

@ Jimmy, Epping and Stansted between us. I've read your build posts more than once, hats off to you for the effort you've taken mate. I may well take you up on the offer of help/tips.
@Aaron, top fella, good to talk to you earlier, i'll be in touch soon about getting those bits.
Thanks for the welcome guys, i'll post some more as soon as we get chance to do some more work (Race of Champions at the weekend, so nothings going to happen then!)

I'm in the lovely Langdon Hills golf club Wednesday for a work do. Unfortunately I'm in London Friday for our "proper" drink. I think doing both will skint me!!

Hope it keeps snowing for you! I'm not jealous honestly. :(

Second season without going riding. I miss it big time. And Xscape just doesn't do it for me.

My mate who has a Lotus Sunbeam has his meets in a pub called the Talbot ( can you see what they've done there  )

An Essex PBMW meet would be great. Just can't think of a pub with a name that fits.........

Leave the car stripped out and outside, and when it gets cold and I mean REALLY cold, then just attack the black stuff with a hammer. It will crack and fall apart without having to use freeze spray or the like. That's what i did on mine. No need for heat guns, as this will just make the tar stick more!

Thats definately not true, stripped 3 cars out using a heat gun and a wallpaper scrapper, zero effort and time, then just clean up residue with petrol and a kitchen scourer

Nice to see such a strong following in Essex, be good to have a meet in the New Year so gawp and eachothers cars and swap ideas.....may have to wait till after Beford though, thats a target for us.
We'll try the freeze spray 1st, only as Nigel has some from a plumbing job!
I'll advise as to how it goes, also getting brakes and suspension from Aaron on here, so they'll be next, @MikeT, welcome in, be good to hear / see how you are getting on.

Epping and Stansted between us
Only down the road from me :D welcome fella and a good job your making of that 1.8

How'd it go with the sound deadening? - i found it a piece of p1ss to use just a scraper and a bit of pressure and hey presto - it lifts no problem.

Neil.

Looks really tidy and took me right back to stripping out my white E30 (325 though).

In the front footwell corners there was rot on mine that had to be cut out & replaced by a body shop as the cage was going in so I wanted it to be really strong and reinforced.

My E30 from 2 years ago..but more pics on http://www.whitetrack325i.webeden.co.uk/
