260 BHP is what Scotts 2.8 made with TBS and MBE standalone, HOT cam and all the usual tweaks( 6 branch etc ) iirc

there's the benchmark as far as I'm concerned, as for the dyno proven bit, maybe it has the balls to match the claims ?

dubious, of course

Obviously I don't know as much as people like Ant but an old tuner friend of my dad's used to recon about 100 bhp/litre was about it from a 2 valve, single cam normally aspirated, road derived engine with a reasonable level of torque and reliability but that over 100 was quite possible from ancient pushrods if you don't mind frequent rebuilds and have deep enough pockets (ie you are racing).

In all my years of reading and talking about older cars I've not really come across anything that made me question this rule of thumb.

Personnaly, if I was buying the car I'd be suspicious of any claim much over 200bhp though!
