hi this is my first post

i have a e30 325is m tech automatic in diamond black.

it has 17 alpina replicas on it.

the car goes well but i think it might not be producing the power it should.

i say this because ive seen the same cars with the same size wheels in autos put there foot down and spin up in the dry.

my car cant do this. (burn out or donut) which concerns me. or is this normal?

thanks

joe.

Do the enevitable and hold her on high revs in neutral then slip it into 1 - warning though, prolonged usage of this manor will easily blow the gear box like i found out on my trusty 2 ltr 'Loner'

dont get me wrong i dont whish to abuse my car by smashing it into gear.

but i thought these cars would burnout if you step on the brake and load up the torque converter

or on full lock donut but seriously nothing.

even in the wet it will go round onec but then the revs drop?

surely this aint normal.

no

its had a recon box and torque converter.

and the full head was recon like 3 k ago.

but i cant belive it cant turn the wheels.

a friend had a normal 325i with 15 on it and it used to spin up pice of piss.

Don't stand on the brake pedal to burn out , it only requires light application and a 325i manual or auto to smoke regardless - if this isn't the case i'd look into who fitted the torch converter

torch converter issues??? did you get the proff of work receit from when it was replaced? either that or you've got some seriously sticky rear tyres on her - on full lock and locked in 1 and given space - she should do what you want her to do

ive just had a look at te dics front. there worn pads are ok but disc have seen better days.

does anyone think this cold be making the back wheels lock up slightly when im on the brake?

still this wouldnt explain why it cant donut in the dry.

Most of the braking goes to the front calipers on an E30 so, giving that your front pads arn't completly shagged and the discs are as thin as a CD i'd say that slighty worn pads arn't going to be the problem.

The cold will have nothing to do with this situ either fella.

It all comes down to 'Torch' regardless of what bhp your engine is running - this is why i asked about your torch converter work - it sounds as though the engine is struggling to put it to the drive of the rear wheels. The only stuggling point would be the torch converter.

you wont be able to donut properly unless you have an LSD or a welded diff.

I have never managed to get my 325i auto to spin its tyres in the dry. I dont have an LSD so in the wet/damp I can get one wheel spinning.

i think the car has a lsd.

i put the car in first turned it on full lock and just keept going and all it done was push the front wheels out.

the car seems to go quite well it kicks down and goes.

but i know that ive seen at least 2 autos spin up. 1 i dont know what he had done to itbecause he just put his put down and it started wheel spining with 17. the other had 15 but was standard.

It is harder for an auto admittidally but none the less she should spin - at the very least in the wet on full lock.

I watch about a year ago now a guy called "Jimbo" take out another Zoners car which was a 4 door 325i auto on an open diff an donut it properly for a good few mins - he did start in a hugh circle and decreased it but got it in the end.

Cabbies tend to push their front wheels out due to the chassie weight but i'm guessing you've got a rare 325i sport switchable auto??

I have spun the wheels on my 316 and spun it , lost my 325i auto in the wet so anything is possible.

Email the pics to neil.greenwin@ntlworld.com and i'll host them up for you

But yes, that a switchable auto box - that sucker should spin up regardless given slightly more effort than a manual! - - - - - torch converter again fella springs to mind.

laps of roundabouts in my 316 is quite fun, obviously on private roads, bring on the welder.

Great, another member of the south east london club.

Sorry I can't help you with your problem, but it's nice to see people with e30 down these sides.

OK, you need to get intouch with a guy called "Ant" - a moderator on here with the same user name, he runs a firm called "Atech" which specilize in E30's and is based in Orpington with a bag of knowledge - he'll come highly recomended by me and any other user on here and i'm sure he'll be able to diognose your problem for you (I'm gonna stick with torch converter).

p.s. he lives for "Hob Nobs"
