Hi Im stripping My Eta down and need to order new bearings , does any one have bearing size data handy , i found :-
the crank has Red dots next to the main Bearings , i measured the journals with Dig caliper all at 59.99 to 60.00 mm , is that std or ?
the main shells have 4009 u0 AND 1285 480 on the cap and 0790Ud 1267 271 on the lower shells can ui use these numbers to order new ones ?
the big end hole in the rod with shell removed and caps fitted all measure 48.06 mm is that std or under size .? All big ens caps have B4 on them , and the shells mostly have 1284 843, and 844 and on the other end of the shell is 2491 or 288 , or 2795 , is this relevant to ordering shells , 02 87 poss manufacture date? are gsf ok or should i pay extra from sealers ? think Ant said use M52 ones but can rember?? thanks

Get down your local engine recon centre and take samples of the old bearings with you along with the year of the engine. They'll be cheaper than the stealers but better quality parts than GSF.
My local engine centre charges me £50 for a set of Kolbenschmidt mains (OE manufacturer), and about £40 for a set of big end shells.
They all sound like standard sizes to me, undersize shells (for reground cranks) go down in 0.25mm increments.
Don't think you can use the later M20 or M52 shells as the locating tabs are different. My 86 ETA block has single tabs whereas my 89 325i block uses 2 locating tabs.
Cheers,
