Opening rear quarters on a touring?

looking at all 2 door e30s with opening rear quarters got me thinking, i was wondering how viable it would be to convert the rear windows near the tailgate into openers.. that would look sooooo cooool... i imagine its a case of drilling the glass to take the hinges and openy thing and thats it.. has anybody tried this with success ??

I think I remember someone saying something about the glass being 'structural', it is bonded with glue and a bitch to get out I think.

Probably best not to mess if this is right.

Nice idea though, I'd have em on mine!
