hi can anyone tell me how to open the tps on my 1991 318i.m40 motor as i would like to clean tne carbon track, as the car has developed a flat spot.and i suspect this is the problem. i tried once before but broke one of the tabs off :( and didnt want to go any further in case i damaged the hole thing. pics would be advantage. thanks .[/i]

There isn't a carbon track, it's a pair of switches.

One switch (the one for throttle closed) is a sealed microswitch, the other (for full throttle) is an open contact that can be cleaned.

many thanks for that info, templ8e .any idea how i get rid of the flat spot.and by the way i see your from lancashire,i was born in lancashire blackburn, many years ago.

Are you confusing the TPS with the AFM (air flow meter)?

yeh that could be,though i have cleaned that one before some time ago, i suspected the tps because i fiddled with it then put it back and for a day or two there was no flat spot.i will clean afm to see any dif. thanks.
