Had a brake judder problem which was cured with a new set of front brake discs and pads, or so I thought...

On the car a few weeks, but am getting a noticeable wobble in the steering wheel when braking between 40mph and 50mph. Can't feel it if braking below 40mph.

Think the new discs are warping, which means that they're the symptom of the problem rather than the root cause.

Could it be some suspension components? Don't want to fork out for another set of original BMW discs and the same thing happen

Did you fit the new brakes yourself?

If so, did you give everything a good cleaning before fitting? All the mating surfaces were all nice and clean free from any imperfections?

control arm bushes. ball joints. track rod ends. check all those

also, if you brake hard then sit with your foot on the brake (at the lights or so) then that will warp the discs

Get a run out check carried out on the discs to see how bad they are (and work out which is causing the problem). If this confirms that a disc/s is warped, check out the state of the caliper and also take the disc off and check the hub itself. I had the same problem as yourself and ended up wrecking two discs (after replacing the front calipers as well!) before we worked out that a new hub / wheel bearing that was fitted a few months earlier was faulty and was actually the culprit. The full details of this saga are in an old thread of mine if you want any further details on how much was changed before realising this!
All parts sales proceeds going to my next e30 fund (current one wrecked thanks to some thieving tw*t!)

I gave everything a good cleaning before fitting the new discs and pads. The previous discs came off easy as they weren't on the car too long (few months). Tend to use the brakes too light rather than too heavy, not sure if this would have any affect. Control arm bushes were replaced last year, but would warped discs cause good bushes to go bad? Think I'll get my trusted mechanic to sort this out as the car has to go in to get a couple of other jobs done.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

May be getting new front hubs as the ABS sensor rings look totally rusted and I'm interested in getting the ABS system working and getting the brake disc shields replaced. Hopefully my mechanic will get to the bottom of the problem without it costing the price of another E30
