sounds like you may have a leaky heater valve
not too hard to sort, just need to drop the glovebox and i think the centre console

The 1st thing you should do is have someone with a hose pipe, rain water on your car. You meanwhile will be inside the car with a flashlight, cheaking for leaks.
The most common causes of a wet floor are ... Water... (joke)
the plastic seals on the doors
heater valve
holes in the floor
sunroof drain blockage.

the sunroof draintubes run down the inside of the a pillars and end up in the sills.
if its blocked you will end up with a damp stain on the corner of the headlining.
just had a thought that it might be due to the scuttle drain being blocked, little rubber tube that looks like a squarish elephant trunk on the drivers side of the bulkhead.this can cause water to overflow into the heater box but i would think you would get water on either side of the centre console.

It's also worth checking the large grommet beneath the fusebox where the wiring comes in through the firewall and into the car.
You should be able to put you're head up inside the passenger footwell and see the heater valve, also this large grommet should be visible.

a little elephant trunk shape pipe that collects the water from under your windscreen is probably blocked with old dust and leaves.its on the passenger side at the top of the bulkhead.its about4-5 inches long.just unclip it and give it a good clean out.thats what was up with mine when i had the same problem.be careful not to break it like me though
Ive got the good old E30 wet pasenger carpet
gonna check the things above. After reading Eko's thread on the suprise under his roof lining I'm getting abit worried.

I've been getting a wet floor (clear rainwater, no coolant by the look of it) and just checked the little elephant trunk thing (can't help but feel that's got a more technical name....) and it was blocked from top to bottom with 17 years worth of silt! Maybe that's got something to do with it.....

Bought: Obtain in exchange for payment. Brought: Come to a place with (someone or something).
These words are NOT interchangable....!

Been there done this twice!
First time, the heater matrix let go on the way back from stoneleigh and flooded the footwell, so changed that. You have to remove the carpet to dry it up properly. left it in the sun last summer, took a week to dry throughly.
The second time was when i noticed it getting damp when it rained heavily. This was a case of the bulk head/scuttle panel drain pipe blocked. I cleaned all that up and for good measure pulled the dash out and replaced all the seals/grommets for where the heater and wires etc goes through the bulk head. not a drop since.
Ball ache job but better done properly than bodged to leak another day
