Moderator: martauto
Right the electric windows only work if you open one of the doors??It doesnt matter what door it is but you have to open one of them if you want an interior light or an electric window lights to come on and for them to work.Any ideas??

Does the cigar lighter work like that too. ie only when a door is open. I had something similar a paper clip in the tray in front of the ashtray was shorting out the lighter and taking the 30A, position 28, out; leading to a wealth of wierd electrics that the wiring diagrams could not explain.
bottom line check all the fuses are good.

Fuse 17 (30A) is the fuse for the windows with the door closed. Swap it with another 30A fuse in the fusebox.
Check with a 12V lamp if there is power at this fuse with the ignition on. If not, pull relay K5 in the fusebox, and link together pins 30 and 87 of the socket with a piece of wire.
If there was power at 17, then check the green/blue wire hasn't pulled out from the auxillary power socket behind the glovebox, and swap the 5 pin relay a couple of inches to it's left.

my drivers door only has started doing this, and not all the time; fuse 17 is ok. If it is just the drivers side, would it prob be what you were saying about the wires behind the glovebox, Brianmooooore?
Doh!!!!!!!!!!!
Checked fuse number 17 and gues what there wasnt even a fuse in it!!!So I put one in and wahey it works!!Thank you very much and sorry for being silly.Very happy because it's hard to roll down the windows at 60 when you have to open the door!!

Mine driver side window too. But mine is manual. I can open it half open but if I wan't it totaly open I have to open the door. The same when closing. I'm going to have a look at it when it is a bit varmer outside. My worries these days are the EU-inspection of the car (it has to be approved before registration). I have had it in for inspection once... but now I have fixed the foulty... wich was wared out track-rods. I have changed them my self... and I pray to God they don't ask me if I have had the toe-in checked.

Orangecurry - your problem is with the switch in the door pillar - two switches in one. One for the interior lights and one for the windows relay.
Unscrew the single self tapper in the door pillar switch, pull the switch out and pull off the connectors. Make sure they don't flip back inside the pillar or you'll have some dismantling to do. Scrape the contact areas of the switch clean and check that a little sliver of black plastic hasn't got between the contacts. Reassemble, and all should be well.
