t-cut metallic paint?

hi all the 325i touring i have just bought is covered in light scratches i was going to t-cut it but have been told not to as its metallic paint (diamond black ) can anyone recommend any products that i may be able to use to try and bring back the shine on the old beast

There is a specific t cut for metallics - or at least I have some which I bought ages ago. T-cut is quite aggresive.

Cost wise the megauires range is the most reasonable and there is a guide in the articles section.
There's a lot of potential spending to be had here on products. The t-cut may do the job but test it out on a small area to begin with on a hidden bit of paintwork, like the door pillar where there are little seat belt buckle scratches.

t cut/g 10 is awesome stuff mate, they use t cut or farcela g10(extra fine compound) to bring the paint work up to shine, but they obviously use a mop, or you would kill yourself doing it by hand, or if you no how to flatten and polish paint work you would use either t cut or g10 or some kind or extra fine compound with a mop to bring it up to an awesome shine,
g 10 is made by farcela comes in a big yellow bottle, brillant stuff! less aggressive than t cut if your worried about using it, im guessing your trying to get the light swirl marks or scratches out? i would use g 10 on a damp cloth or mop head,
but if you are trying to get deeper scratches out that are in the lacquer, nib them out with some 1500 paper and soap, then t cut or g10 them up to a glass type fininsh, but be careful not to go thro the lacquer!

T-cut is shit because its so aggressive and doesn't break down - every pass just scrubs more and more.

Farcela is good stuff, but its old fashioned and messy (by machine anyway). And if you are going to wet sand, 1500 is far too coarse to start with. Start at the finest and work the other way if necessary - 3000 and a few more passes is much better than 1500 and 'oh I've fecked it up' in three strokes.

The stuff I get in yellow bottles is called G4 compound.................? Same thing?

I use 3M imperial hand glaze to restore paintwork; hard work but you only have to do it once (if you then protect it with a good polish). You can buy it from any proper car/paintshop company.
