Whilst cleaning my car yesterday in a great mood! Wrexham won the LDV cup, and Spurs beat Newcastle! i was full of good vibes. that soon changed when i was checking the car i.e oil, water.
only to notice that the water in the expansion tank was milky, i have been loosing water for a few days now nothing major i just thought i had a leaky radiator, so i just kept topping it up aswell as checking the oil and the cap was a bit cramy but i thought it was condensation!
checked it yesterday and the engine is full of gunk! so great my Head Gasket has gone so thats going to be another couple of hundred quid to get fixed! going to book her into my local BMW specialist today, now for the really bad news i will be driving my grandparents car around! a lovely 1990 1.6i nissan Bluebird in red (well oxidized pink), what a day!!!!

feeling rather sorry for myself now! :(

Hi mate,

Sorry to hear about that.

You may or may not have read, but the same thing happened to mine unfortunately.

At least it's getting sorted!

Nasty. There was a littly mayo on the top of the oil dipstick on mine a couple of weeks ago.
Changed the oil and water even though the water was clean, checked it again there at the weekend and the mayo is still there but its hard to know if it was there from before or there is a problem.
The water is still clean though.

Im dreading the worst though.

Yes but does it overheat? sounds like condensation. If the waters clean aswell then i think your being paranoid

I rand mine with a cracked head for a month or so it's the water jackets that go its common on 5th and 4th cylinder.. some poor some trickel, i had the later.. you wont get over heating just keep topping up h20, the bad mix you have in the head will mostly expel out of the exaust, if u got it on the dip stick stop using it but a new head is the oreder of the day.

Would it not be worth dropping a replacement engine in there? The car looks really good and it seems such a shame to get rid!!!!

is not just changing the head an option?

My head gasket has gone twice or three times now but i was lucky enough not to have cracked the head so it was a case of getting a Ԛ£20 head gasket from the local parts place and giving it a whirl.....

I keep reading all these headgasket posts and agree it must be a major pain to stump up or fix yourself but once a head has been re built the car should run better, go better and give better fuel consumption if it's done properly.

Think of all the poor sods driving around in ford shedscorts that need this on a regular basis - and still getting crap performance LOL

LMAO! thanks for what i thought was going to be a possitive response!!

Like i said my dad has taken on the E30 now and is after either a pukka 320i or 325i engine to replace the old one! as for my new sig, i might save that one and use it, na really i am still a great fan of the E30 over all the 3 series, just this E36 was a steel at what i picked her up for and couldn't really leave her there for just over 1K just saving up now for a 325i sport now!!

Bladdy hell if someone buys an E36 its like medievil times "quick run for the hills avoid this one hes got the plague!"

So any help with new engine (as close to north wales as possible!!!)

Thanks!

Not wrong mate! well while my car is getting fixed i am driving the E36 though!
but we took the E30 for a drive well my dad followed me (Me in E36 - Dad in E30) and i was trying to get away from him not to race but because the E30 looks so much nicer than the E36 and i was a bit embaressed!!!

Think i will be getting another E30 pretty soon! Saw a mint E30 M3 in Black going near Oswestry going the other way as we where going to get the IS seats from Telford yesterday!! just noticed it straight away. Miss the E30 now and its only in my parents house!!!! At least i know that she will be fixed!!
