Hi all,
realise this is probably not the best place to ask but Im not getting anywhere
on other forums

can anyone help with possible wireing issues with my m60/62 install in my e36 m3 saloon, I say m60/62 as I have both engines so will fit the easier option, can you help?? thanks.

There are M60->E30 threads and S50->E30 threads running on here. If you do a search and have a read about the issues with both conversions you should get a good idea of what's needed to put M60 in place of the old S50 in your E36 especially if it's just the wiring you're struggling with.

So is the m60 an easier engine to fit than the m62?
are there that many differences?

dunno to be honest, aren't they near as damnit the same physically (4L + 4.4L) + single (one each bank of course) VANOS on the M62?
If you're using the M62s ECU I can't imagine there's a lot of difference at all between the two.
M60 is awesome in my heavy old E34, M62 will make a seriously

E36. What happened to your S50 surely that'd be faster than the V8 if perhaps not quite so cool?

To be honest I bought he car without engine and box but by the time I found a good engine and box (18 months!!) and done the refit it would have cost me so I resold the engine/box and decided to break a 540 of mine and have a go at sticking the m60 in as I know I wont be in a position to be able to own a B8 though I would have the next best thing and using an M3 for a base means Im halfway there if you know what I mean! but time is an issue with me being very busy at work the m3 has sat in the corner since 2004 and has now finally got to the front of the garage so I want to crack on with it but still need engine and gearbox mounts so any help/info on them would also be very helpfull as £300 a side from Alpina is realy not an option at the moment.

Vanos in itself doesn't cause any extra fitting problems. Vanos control is totally included in the ECU and engine loom, and apart from an extra plug to push on, makes no difference.

To be honest I would rather put the 62 in and if you say theres no difference then that would be the preffered option,
looks like I need to sit down for a couple of nights with my WDS disk and do some sort of a chart 8-(

Don't know the electrics for these engines at all, but Vanos poses no problems at all and EWS is OK as long as you have a matching ECU, EWS unit and key.
The real problems arise when you get to cars with a data bus system, where the ECU talks to various other modules around the car and sulks if it doesn't get the right replies.

Does this happen with the m62?

As I said, I don't know these engines.
What year is the M62?

This is just a guess, but I would expect the M62 to have EWS and vanos, but not the bus system, and the M60 to not have EW, or to put it another way, the M62 electrics should be do able, as long as you have the matching EWS unit and key.
Ian Hamilton is probably the person you need to speak to.
