I'm interested in what sort of weight your E30's are?
Mine will be fairly well stripped, but with a large heavy cage added. I haven't gone mad with weight removal, standard battery, standard body panels etc. But things like the heater have been removed and i'm using one seat only.
I would like to think it will be under 1000kg's with no driver. But in reality I think somewhere around 1050kg's.
Have you had yours on the weigh bridge and if so what did she register. How far did you have to go to get it to that weight?

my 318is weighed 1070,to get there it was running -no rear seats, rear trim or boot trim/spare wheel etc.
standard front seats(heavy)lighter exhaust,a few other bits removed but not much.
could easily get it below the ton.

Was told by the guy who sold me it that it weighed approximately 980 kgs when it was on the weighbridge, but I have no idea whether thats right or not. Its been very thoroughly stripped (sunroof, bonnet hinges, sound deadening etc.) and it never had any toys (no PAS, no electric windows etc.) to begin with except ABS (which I'd love to remove). Apart from that, its got a home made 4 point cage, 2 lightish bucket seats, hydraulic handbrake and a fire extinguisher, as well as retaining the heater. Its pretty pacey anyway, so I'm not going to go nuts and remove anything else or start using lightweight components...

my touring weighs 1320 kg as it is now so i think it would be possible to get a stripped out e30 under 1000kg.but it will be bare. what about things like perspex window and fibreglass or carbon panels? that would save a fair bit. you could try dieting yourself to lose a few more kg's. 1 less pie at dinner time

My E30 325i weighs in at 1020kgs with one seat in and me nowhere near ...(I'm 14st 8Lbs)
I got it weighed at a local scrap merchant and also at the local tip who even gave me the doccit to prove it!
Sad b@stard that I am I weighed the stuff I removed from my Ebay purchase to Track day weapon..weight loss is the BEST improvement to the cars performance
Reduction weight of Interior by group LBS
Carpet 35 LBS
Front seats 40Lbs each (80Lbs) 80
Rear seat and back 40Lbs 40
Boot carpet & 2back door panels 10Lbs 10
Jack, Parring and centre consol 22Lbs 22
Spare Wheel 35Lbs 35
Rear parcel shelf speakers 6
Rear seat belts & 4 mud flaps total 6 lbs 6
Sunroof 14
Sound deadening 22
Total weight taken out  270 LBS
I think I can remove another 40 kgs but the cage weighs 35kgs so I recon just over a ton is where I'll finish it.
Cheers, from Ian on the sunny Isle of Man

Some pics would be great and also what about the costs for all that lightweight stuff or like me are you keeping it a secret from the bread knife?
I'm currently at £3500.00 - my web WWW at the bottom details the costs

thats good going for a 335!jimcameron wrote:335i comes in at just under 1000, with cage, two race seats, no power steering and not much else. Still on the road.
as a guess a standard e30 with a 3.5 lump in it should weigh around 1340kg so to remove 340kg is good work!

Apparently a 316 (like the one I'm buying) weighs in at 990kgs standard. Looks like I don't have far to go lol.
That is for the 1984 though, so I assume the later ones are a bit heavier.

does anyone know what a road going e30 m3 weighs in at, and what do the race cars normally weigh? are they heavier due to the arches?

Mine is an M3 E30 (Kumho) which weighs with no driver 990Kgs at last check (maybe a bit less had a bit more work done), not sure we can get much more off this weight.
It has been on a fairly big diet.
Northloop you say you think yours is 1000Kgs without going crasy on weight loss? what has yours had done to it.
We have had to do a lot to get down to this and the lightest M3 E30 i know of is 950kgs without driver.

920 !!! Looks like we still have a weigh to go then. (weigh / way ? get it ???
)...
Our 318is with 2.7 lump weighs 1080 with no driver and little fuel on board.
That is with the followings mods:
Carbon boot + f/glass M3 spoiler
F/glass bonnet
No PAS
All Carpets sound deadening removed.
Rear interior 3/4 panels gone.
Parcel shelf gone
Glove box removed
Stereo, speakers and all redundant wiring removed.
Spare wheel well replaced with carbon plate.
All original seats gone
2x Kevlar seats,
Rear cage.
Lifeline fire extinguisher
Since weighed have replaced door cards with carbon ones...
But looks like the glass has to be chopped in for perspex and the sunroof is on borrowed time... as front cage soon to be added !

I will get mine weighed once it's finished. I would like to think I will get near the 1000kg mark but the custom cage is a monster so i'm not convinced.

Thats about the same as one of my E30's, but I'm not sure how it's been managed within PBMW regs!
Mine had minimal cage (6 point), carbs (so no intake system), dedicated minimal loom, GRP panels, No underseal, alloy 20Litre tank in the boot, GRP bumpers, no sunroof etc. If I fitted the plastic windows and GRP bonnet/boot it was well under 900.

I've already managed another 7kilos off your other e30 and in the winter it's full on weight loss. Looks like i'll have to keep the glass if I'm going pre 93 though.

Yeah, you got the heavy one of the two (relatively of course!) I did the expensive work already though with the GRP panels and sunroof removal!
