No mot or tax (does not even run!)
How do I get it back to my garage?
I will be using a solid towing arm & it will be insured for the journey
If I get stopped by the plod, am I covered?
towing an unroad worthy car tonight...

I don't think that is legal - if its not legally roadworthy I think that voids the insurance (but I'm not sure).
The only 100% way if to trailer it, but if you don't have access to one its a paint in the arse.

Its very illegal to tow an unroadworthy vehicle with a tow pole (or rope)
You can use an A frame, or simply hire a car transporter.

Saying an unroadworthy car is against the law to tow on a solid bar depends on a number of things.......
The car MUST have working REAR lights.
The car MUST have legal tyres.
And depending on how long you have had your driving licence, you must have towing entitlement. The laws changed on towing a few years ago.
As long as you have these requirements it IS legal to tow and will not void your insurance.
When a car is being towed on a bar it is then put into the classification of "trailer".
Hope that helps
