E36 Coilovers on E30?

Evenin all, this may sound a stupid question but does anyone know if there is a massive difference in E36 suspension struts and E30 struts?

E36 coilovers seem to be a hell of alot cheaper than E30 so I was thinking about trying to fit them :D
