Standing 1/4 mile in 13.4 seconds @ 108 mph. This is the claim from Metric Mechanic Inc of Richland in the USA.This may interest E30 owners who want to retain a stock appearance under the hood and who also would like to out accelerate a E36 M3.This web site is impressive as Jim explains how he has developed the the M20 into a more reliable and long lasting engine by addressing the problem areas of the stock engine. For example ,cambelt failure that can cause catastrophic failure, head cracking at the top edge of the cam valley between #4 and #5 cylinders, head bolts breaking off, etc. They will sell a complete 3.2 litre rally engine for US $ 8995 plus $800 for core.Alternatively they sell a kit for US $ 5695.This would reduce shipping costs and alloy use of your own 2.5 litre lump and thus retain original engine numbers. It's food for thought.Regards Richard I live in Sydney Australia and have no connection with Metric Mechanic.

Was it on ITBs?
Was it stripped or in full trim?
what tyres was it running?

wooooo why spend 9000 usd ....someone on here has a stock 325i stripped out does the quarter in 14 odd....
turbo for less ,
waste of money in my opinion...
more impressive would be the extra torque but then you may aswell fit m30 and spend a bit on that..
bolts snapping,belts snapping,huh? head crackin
maybe?

A S50 E30 does that, no way a M20 does that without a serious cam, a bigger displacement and very high compression

just had a look at this website, The one for $8995 is supposed to give 240bhp. Considering what it would cost over here to make an engine that gives that much power which equates to roughly £4500, its about right. Yeah its a lot of money but so is a good turbo conversion.

Surely the rod/stroke ratio's gotta be getting a bit low with a 3.2? Having said that I've no idea what they can be bored out to so mabey it's not that bad

13.4 on the 1/4.
who gives a monkeys arse? the e46 m3 does that out of the box and i dont give a monkeys arse about that either(although kos could buy one at the drop of a hat).
ive no doubt the e30 had everything striped out of it making it a shite road car. and youve already mentioned the engine cost. really pointless.
if you want a faster e30 then go to ant, and get a turbo for plenty less money.

Its a well known fact that if you drink 32 cans of redbull you can run it faster. Av male on 32 cans of RB is 12 secs dead.

Sure its pointless to some but obviously not for others. Without people like them the amount of aftermarket performace parts available would be much smaller.jonb wrote:13.4 on the 1/4.

Why not try to see what a modded m20 engine can do while retaining the original engine and be eligible for specific classes at the the track which is part of the reason for developing them i suppose.
If your purpose is for the fastest car at the cheapest price nobody would get an E30 in the first place.
The time was from a g-tech so its accuracy is questionable to begin with but it uses a slightly modified factory cast intake and exhaust manifolds, M30 AFM and standard motronic ECU with chip.
