I've had a loss of power over the last couple of days when accelerating away from standing start 2nd-3rd & 3rd-4th. Gets worse if I apply more pedal, but once in 4th it settles down and car drives and performs as normal. Dropping from 4th-3rd to overtake with power on brings it back (had a couple of frights when ERF badges nearly filled the screen). Also on long M/Way climbs in 5th power begins to drop and change down to 4th and reduced speed gets rid of it. Thing is, under acceleration from standing start it only happens say 2 out of 5 times. Sounds like its a 1 pot misfire. Apart from 1 ticking tappet (blocked oil feed) engine has been fine since last service, no starting or idle problems. Ideas on a postcard please........................................

Sounds to me like fuel starvation,I had a van with the same symptons, turned out to be a partially blocked fuel filter.

I was thinking (hoping and praying) it might be something to do with fuel. What do you suggest? Start at the tank and work forwards or start under the lid and work back.

May be wrong, but I would say, time to change the distributor cap and rotor arm.
