what is the speedo accuracy of the E30 range?

just because in a speed camera related instance, when im shown doing 46mph are they 100% accurate and i am doing 46mph? or would i be doing slightly more or slightly less?

speedo's in cars read more than what you are actually doing, so at 46mph, you would doing something like 43mph or so. But I don't know what the percentage is for accuracy.

Speedo accuracy is almost impossible to put exact figure too,the main effect being being the vast vast range of different wheels and tyres people have on their cars.
I was also under the understanding speed cameras are fixed to a +/- 10 percent reading as well, chances are,if your doing 40mph for instance and your speedo is slightly out,you still shouldn't set off any cameras,i know I never have.
HTH a bit :D

I'd say more like 41.

Someone on here put up a thread a few weeks ago about calibrating the speedo, and they found that when theirs read 60 the car was actually only going 53mph.

So if it read 46 you'd probably be going 40 or 41 at the most.

Of course this presumes all E30 speedo's have the same inaccurary, but if it read 46 and you passed a camera in a 40mph zone, I'd put a lot of money on you not getting a ticket, as the police give 10% plus 3mph (or 2mph in some places) leeway :thumb:

i know my sport speedo used to read a top speed of 145 mph,i was well chuffed but i had good idea that it maybe out. When i fitted a set of m3 clocks the max speed came to a more realistic 135 mph.

Seriously....forget about it. If it definitely said 46 and you haven't got huge wheels on the car you've got nothing to worry about :D
