My 318iS engine is getting a little tired, the exhaust is shot and it'll need fixing soon so I've decided to fit the 325i engine from my project 325i. It's such a mint engine, has only covered 65,000 miles and purrs like a kitten. Seems a shame to get rid of it too so I want to put it use in my everyday car. Long term I think it'd be cool to convert it to mega squirt and perhaps even turbo. The S50 will take up much of my time and money though!

It's an auto so I want to take the gearbox off, and fit the parts neccassary for the manual conversion. I'll use the engine mounts, cooling system, exhaust etc from the 325i so really it should be an easy swap. Can someone point me in the right direction: exactly what parts I'll need to swap over and which parts I'll need to get hold of to convert the engine to manual and put into my car?

So far I'm thinking I'll need:

Gearbox
Prop
New doughnut/flexi disc
Gearbox crossmember
Flywheel
Clutch-kit
Spigot bearing

From the 325i I'll need:

Engine, engine loom and ecu
Cooling pipes
Radiator (can I use the auto one or should I get a manual one)
Exhaust and hangers
Instrument coding plug

Any help, much appreciated!

Here you go mate, here's all the stuff you'll need for the manual conversion;

Image

Im doing one on a 325 convertible at the moment.
(Doing a step by step with tons of pics, hopefully have them in a pdf soon when im finished)

Manual Box
Manual Prop
prop donut
prop centre bearing
manual flywheel
clutch
release bearing (should be inside the box when u get it)
gearbox rear mount
gear stick selectors and gearstick
manual pedal box
clutch slave cylinder (should be in your box when u get it)
clutch master cylinder
clutch fluid resivior pot + pipe down onto master cylinder
1 shaped pipe going from master cylinder to slave cylinder
under dash kick panel
centre console (manual gap)
rear centre console (gets rid of the wholes where your switchable box control would of been)

Thats all the parts you'll need.

Everything else is labour

(oh and the wire bypass so it will start up)

Good luck with it mate.

Spigot bearing, gear lever gaiter and reverse light loom missing from that list, and the centre console is the same, except for unscrewing a small metal bracket on the auto one.
Starter bypass is just a matter of removing some wiring and a relay from above/behind the glovebox, and then pushing a couple of plugs together.
