Right, MOT passed, driving fine but pump whining like a sonofabitch

Question is does this mean its on the way out and needs replaced asap?

Whine started after I had the fuel tank replaced about a month ago, as we all know our cars don't like being meddled with and it was the pump being taken out and then put back in that seems to have done it.

Brianmoooooooooore told me that its either that the pump is touching the bottom of the tank or its shorted its sound deadening mechanism - just need to know if this is an urgent fix.

Its a 1989 325iSE

Just priced them Bosch & Siemens and I'd rather leave it for now if possible :o:

Cheers for any advice

My old pump was as noisy as hell for 2 years before i replaced it with a quiet one.
I then sold the noisy one and it is still going strong.
Just because it's noisy, doesn't mean it's going to die any second.

a new one is around 130 notes iirc

I would like to know a bit more about this. Mine has started to whine occasionally so if its an easy fix....

It is probably caused by mecanical wear of the axle bearing, causing the armature to vibrate as it rotates.
Because the pump is a sealed unit, this problem can not be fixed.

Take the pump out and check if it's touching the bottom. Very easy to remove, although do it with the tank towards empty, in a well ventilated area and with the doors open.
