Can anyone recommend springs and shocks to replace the standard ones in an iS which are old and knackered?
Thanks
John

That's what I reckoned but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I think it would make it too low - it's my gf's daily driver and doubling as my toy - she doesn't always slow for speed bumps so I don't want to make it too low.

What's the difference between Eibachs and H&R springs? The drop is the same but the price is different...

she doesnt slow for speed bumps? I wouldnt lower the car then! could be a few cracked sumps then!

I'd recomment H&R springs definately
I personally run koni shocks which I like but the general opinion is that billies are better suited? I cant really comment as I've not used billies
Bollocks to this 24v scrap!

It's difficult to find a better sports suspension than the MTEC setup, as it gives a decent amount of comfort that you won't get with others. I think this is important, especially in Ireland with all the crappy roads we have. If the springs are in good nick, get a new set of Boge MTEC shocks from eurocarparts. If the springs are crap, new ones are very expensive from BMW, but you could consider Eibachs.

You will be surprised the improvement you will notice with a new set of Boge MTEC shocks.

I've not got experience on an E30 but the H&R springs tend to be on the harder side while the eibachs tend to be softer and more suited to brittish roads. I had H&R's on my Civic Type-R and rate them very highly but if your girlfirend doesn't slow down for speed bumps then the eibachs are probably the better route for you.

I bought an 318iS a few months back which already had the suspension replaced with the standard MTEC stuff, it loads up very nicely on the corners and is also very compliant over the bumps. I normally take them at 30mph without too many problems and only have to slow down to 20mph for the bigger speed bumps.

I have a set of eibach's with koni shock's, which give a decent ride, BUT i would like some bilstein shocks next, they seem to come highly rated.

Again they are meant to be stiffer than the "default" Koni choice.

I'm getting my car sorted with brand new o.e. mtec stuff next week - I'll let you know if it was worth the expense!

I've been in a car with brand new Mtec stuff.

It is actually very good but sits way too high and the car still boats around too much.

The Eibach springs are softer than the H&R, the difference in price is simply down to the what the distributers want to charge here.

I would go with Bilstein shocks and either of the Eibach or H&R springs.,

The Alpina C2 has 35mm H&R's and Bilstein sport shocks -very nice ride and ery good mannners in the bendy bits.

I would have loved to have gone with the eibach / bilstein combo but i'm using the car daily and it has to contend with my garage ramp and speed bumps so I've decided to stay stock. Might try this combo on my other car though - I fancy setting it up for track day use.

The Eibach and H&R springs only lower a sport by a mere 10-15mm.

Still very practical.

I already had the replacement stock shocks in the garage so i was a bit limited as far as buying lowered springs with matching shocks. :(

+1 for konis
Used billies in another car about 5 yrs ago, they were fine too, i like the adjustability of the konis though.

would stock MTEC shocks handle the 10-15mm drop of Eibachs or HnR?

probably but they wouldn't be 100% ideal but that depends on your requirements.

i've been in/owned cars with all the setups mentioned and found that they are all good, but the m-tech setup isn't a touch on the H&R/billy eibach/konis setups when it comes to the bends as the limits of these combos are so much higher.

I've also found that the eibach/knois setup can if u want have the best ride with there nothing in it between the other 2.

2p!

my favourite is billys and H&R's

No car should take speed humps at 30mph that is not good for suspension
