A 318i at 17?

Wish I was that lucky

I've been hearing all about Privilege being good for new drivers :thumb:

It'll still be a lot but consider it an investment as if you don't have any accidents it should be under half next year :D

try www.elephant.co.uk and put either your mum or dad (or both ) on the policy seems to drop it radically!

also try their bonus accelerator programme (10 months for a years no claims!)

regulars will have heard this countless times from me matt, cos i seem to be the only one anywhere to have such a good deal on my insurance. I had a 318i cabby when I was 18 (now 19). You must do the following for what i believe to be a deal that won't be around forever as its insanelty cheap - unless of course ant's 'idea' is better:

1. Take your test and buy insurance from N.U. in your name with the excess jacked right up (you don't want to claim on a 318i e30 unless its REALLY special as the value of the car will be less than the premim - so you want as low a premium as you can get with as high an excess as possible (Ԛ£1120) on the basis that you will never be claiming and therefore never paying the excess, whereas you WILL be paying the annual premium). Make sure you buy their RAPID BONUS SCHEME policy which is 9 months equals a year of NCB.

2.Straight away you will receive info from N.U. Phone them up with regards their Pass Plus deal with BSM. If you do this, you pay N.U. Ԛ£90 and they put you through a Pass Plus in assocation with BSM.

3. Under this scheme N.U. will then give you your first years NCB straight away and refund you the difference between your new premium and what you originally paid.

In my case my initial premium for my cabby was approx. Ԛ£1400, after the pass plus rebate, it was approx. Ԛ£800 and I got about Ԛ£550 back from N.U. So as far as I see it anyone who doesn't take advantage of this deal is insane.

I have been insuring this car for 10 months, at my last renewal which was last month, I paid Ԛ£480! This is fully comp on a beemer cab at the age of 18. There are 30 year olds who pay more for that on a focus in London. So it really is worth it. By the time you are 20/21 you will have full NCB which means a 325 is a real proposition, not a killer like it would be for most of that age.

Hope all this helps, and if you don't go down this route Matt I'd be interested to hear what you end up doing.

BTW: WELCOME TO THE ZONE - I got carried away, also

:ttiwwp: of your car that is

anyway buddy good luck and at least phone these people up and ask about it before you commit to some screw ball small company that wont support what they say

The NCB from your bike depends on the insurer, some do some don't.

William: Does this route with N.U. only work if your a new driver? I've been driving neraly 3years but haven't had any insurance in my own name, only been a named driver on my Dads policy for the last year and before that had policys in my Dads name that allowed anyone to drive the cars fully comp. Looking to insure something nuts on that policy when i'm 21 next year and insure my 318iS in my nme but trying to find the cheapest way of doing this.

Will be looking into a traders policy when i'm 21 one as this'll mean i only need one policy instead of 2 so might be cheaper/better value.

kedge,

you'd have to check with NU but I believe there is an upper age limit on the Rapid Bonus Scheme which might be 21 or it might be 25, I can't remember. Easiest thing would be to check out on their website under motor insurance and 'Get a Quote', they explain the rapid bonus scheme there. But as far as how long you've been driving, that's irrelevant as long as you're under this age limit.

cheers
