The steering on my 318is is definitely getting slightly heavier. However there are no funny groans or other unexpected noises coming from it. The power steering fluid is absolutly black - I wondered if it was worth changing first before I go to the expense of replacing the rack or pump? If so what is the procedure for changing it? Is it an easy job?

Anyone?

Thanks

Robin

Definately change the fluid first, then go from there. Seeing as you have no groans or moans for that matter winkeye

Changing the fluid involve disconnecting the return pipe from the rack and directing it into a bowl, blocking the return connector to the resevoir, and flushing fluid through while cranking the engine and turning the steering from full lock to full lock. Messy job!

Thanks Brian

I guessed it would be something like that - still easier and cheaper than changing the rack and pump though...

Cheers
