What does it sound like when a rear top mount goes? Last week I had a bit of a dull clunk from the N/S rear when I went over heavy bumps. Now this seems to have developed into a metal on metal type clunk which is now happening over smaller bumps, quite noticeable inside the car (it's a touring).
Does this sound like a top mount to you? If so is it still safe to drive till the parts turn up?

Sounds very much like a top mount. Buy E46 cab ones as replacements - they are a direct fit, about the same price, but much longer lasting.
Shouldn't hurt to drive it in the meantime.
