Hi
Got a question for all fellow e30 convertible owners, when operating the electric hood am I right in thinking that if you operate the switch with the hood fully shut that the motors should not operate?,

Should the hood only operate when the handles at the front are released and the hood raised slightly ?

Having just bought a 91 318i convertible with faulty electric roof, the motor that raises the rear hood cover has broken at the alloy mounting
I am thinking along the lines that the previous owner has operated the roof with out the hood being released and it's forced the hood cover motor to snap atthe bracket due to the micro switches being improperly adjusted
Does this sound about right? Any help gratefully appreciated

Many thanks

Hi Mate, I dont think you should get any power to the motors if its still locked at the front. I think its got a microswitch in the panel above the windscreen

Let me have your email if you like and I will try and send you the wiring diagram for it.

This is the most common prob with the electric motor ...yes you a correct in your assumptions.. the roof does need all the help it can get if the motor is to stay whole

i have lots of links and a pdf file ..also there is a guy called jason who sells a new top casing for the motor at a reasonable price .. and a guy in germany who does a repair kit....a new motor costs £400

do search under jason
and here are the links
